That Bad hey?? Have you been to Aus before? I've heard so much about it. All good things. Will most certainly be a better quality of life for you over there. I know it;s far from home, but I'm sure you'll adjust. Hope it works out for you fella.dimebag_from_hell wrote:I know hubble, its just getting set up, money together etc. There is no way im staying in northern ireland, my god its a shithole. Well there is a Hartge register on here and thats only in single figures. The sport is a seperate model despite what people may say and at least a register would be alot more active.hubble wrote:Most definitely!Speedtouch wrote:How about having a Sport register section?
It could go along the lines of what build date, colour, transmition, and interior trim each one has and would be a good source for buyers/owners etc.
Mods can this happen?
Something that has always interested me with those DVLA figures, is that they are supplied by muppets
I'll explain:
We all know how easy it is to adjust your v5 to included e30 325 sport, or in the case of birmingham, e30 320 4 door sport.
Now the reverse also applies. A lot of sports do not have sport written on the log book iirc.
So what figure have the DVLA given you.
I do fear its sadly a useless one, given 1) the intelligence of your average DVLA pen pusher and 2) The amount of sports that arn't sports, and the sports that arn't a sport on the log book.
The dvla, certainly arn't privey to the information BMW UK are and cannot say whether something is or isn't a sport off the chassis number.
Thoughts anyone?

Only a dealer print out from the chassis number can confirm weather its genuine or not.Jon_Bmw wrote:Something that has always interested me with those DVLA figures, is that they are supplied by muppets![]()

A bit like a letter from Sytners for an Alpina except a BMW dealer wont sting you for £50!

the grass isn't greener, a foreman on my firm went last year was nearly back after 6 months it was tough, they've only stayed because his missus is Oz. Despite what adverts in the sun are saying! they hate the english like we do the poles out there and it isn't easy or the promised land everyone paints. They make life difficult. We're all going into a tough time ahead.dimebag_from_hell wrote:Yea its not good, na ive never being to Aus but i know alot of fellas who are leaving for there. Any country in the world will have booms and recessions it's the economic cycle. Why people jump ship early or get surprised by it is beyond me!
I know more who've gone and come back. I'd like to go to see myself but theres always two sides.

TBH the guy who supplied me with the figures from the DVLA was very helpful, I suspect he bent the FOI rules and spent longer on it than you are supposed to before they start charging.Jon_Bmw wrote:Something that has always interested me with those DVLA figures, is that they are supplied by muppets![]()

I do agree that a lot of them may not be genuine sports as it is pretty easy to add that to the V5.
But it is a ball park figure, BMW dealers would have far less of a clue, as they have no idea what is on the roads.
I'm not sure but you may be able to pay the DVLA to get chassis numbers, which you could then check with BMW to see if they are genuine - No I'm not going to test this out though!
I'll do another FOI in 6 months time or so, as this one is getting on for a year and a half old, it will be interesting to see how many e30's are being lost a year!
Figures are also based on ones on the road, i.e taxed ones so there may be a number of untaxed ones in peoples garages getting restored etc.
Gwynleym10 I wasn't having a go at you. But if people take the figures as gospel, that is wrong in my opinion.
It'll be funny when there are more sports on the register this time around, especially from BU1 postcodes.

How are you supposed to tell a sport from any other, just by looking at it, theres no way u can imo, as its easy to make a replica. IVe heard that sports were suposed to have a black roof lining, but i had a 325 with a black roof liningand im sure it wasnt a sport.
Definitely a black roof lining and extremely hard to put one in place. I'm sure someone will be on shortly to fully explain in detail the cars factory spec.SHAKEELE30 wrote:How are you supposed to tell a sport from any other, just by looking at it, theres no way u can imo, as its easy to make a replica. As hubble said changing a roof lining to factory standard is a very involved job, removing all the glass and sunroof and gublins. Not a 5 minute job and no one who builds a rep ever does this bit.
Genuine sports won't say sport on a chassis check at the main dealer but that the option of M-tecknic sport package was ticked which gave the car all the kit, gearbox, slipper etc

Irritatingly, Practical Classics magazine's price guide lists both 325i/Sport under the same valuation category. Sport owners, vent your wrath at practical.classics@bauerconsumer.co.uk

I know of one sport, its in diamond schartz colour, black basically, got the kit, cloth interior, G reg, the guy is quite old, he has had it since new, taken to bmw for his services etc, looks very clean, parked up in the garage all the time, unless he drives it, its got about 100k on it, but the car seems very solid, and i want it, asked to sell it to me but doesnt seem like he wants to... Still going to keep buggin him everytime i see him
