does anybody know what the function of the unit on the n/s inner wing of my 1989 325i sport is.reason i ask is that its had a frontal impact(careless fcukwit previous owner) and the wires are severed. i have the loom from a 1990 se and it does not have the unit,just want to know the best course of action,buy a new whatsit or change the loom etc for the later one?????

They were for the dim dip headlamp function, where, when the parking lamps were on and the engine running, the dipped headlamps also lit at reduced brightness.

did they do away with this on the later cars? not sure if to repair all the choped and mangled wires on my car and fit a new unit or just fit the later loom i have. dont want any electrical gremlins later on and being a yorkshireman i dont want to spend any unnecessary cash!!!

Thet were discontinued around the end of 1988, I think.
I've seen the odd 1989 car fitted with the dim dip loom without the resistors fitted, so it will be OK to remove the resistor unit an d unplug it on the left inner wing. (two round plug and sockets.
