what i meant was buying another e30 in far better condition but with a less desirable spec...a 316/318 for example and swapping all of your bits over.

'88 e30 328i M52 track bint.
Less than a week! Since I want to keep it and drive it for fun I wish I could just get it through a M.O.T but It looks like a breaker now! Got to make a few calls and get 1 more quote first but might put it on ebay as it is tonight! Reserve around £1200?
You haven't seen my upcoming iS Touring resto yet thread pal - it's gonna ROCK the rust world proper!pacerpete wrote:How can someone let their car get that rusty?I think it is safe to say that that turd hasn't been present at its last 7 MOTs !
And it looks AWESOME on the outside!

are you joking with that reserve? little more than scrap value with that rust.leigh wrote:Less than a week! and no ones going to buy that as a whole car for even £500. if your breaking it and selling all the bits you might make more but its time consuming and depends on what sought after parts it has fitted and whether people want them. what parts does it have that are desireable?leigh wrote:Selling all the parts comes to well over a £1000! So im not gonna get rid of it for £250 am I!?

having read your other thread i see its a tech 1 sport so there will be a few sellable parts there but with 240000 miles i cant see the engine and running gear fetching much considering the bad condition the shell is its probably not been the best maintained engine either. you should recover your purchase costs of £500 though so you wont be out of pocket.
id go back to the previous "mature" owner and ask questions about the last mot. or contact the mot station that issued the last mot and see what they say about it. it should at least make them panic a little .

Im not bothered about the last owner £500 was a fair price for a tech 1 that drives like this one. I know of 3 people who would pay £800 for it now as it is. You pay up to £3250 for a mint tech 1 £2300 for a mid range and £1500 TO £1250 for an M.O.T FAILURE. MINE IS WORTH AT LEAST £900 EVEN WITH IT'S SERIOUS WELDING ISSUES. I know my prices when it comes to tech 1's as Iv'e had 5 of them and always study the prices of they fetch! Every time I sell one it goes for more than people reckon its worth?!
no offence but that is not clever! its bin to the moon and back and sounds like its gonna be a headache/moneypit of a car, if it was me i would take the 800 you said before, and put it to one that has not got as many issues becuase even one for 2-3k is gonna need money spending on it, next mot for this bills will get worse and worse trust me i have bin there!
240k isnt that bad if its been well maintained
Average mileage people do is 12-15k a year so thats 252000- 315000 .
There are plenty of zoners cars with way over 200k as well .
Leigh ill bell you tomorrow and put you in contact with a friend of mine who does mot welding work and should get you a good price for cash if your not in a rush

Giggety Giggety Goo!!!
Dude, I would have spent £1000 all in and have nice tech 1 sport which flys like no other Ive owned! Its been very well maintained (engine) etc! It only needs welding every thing else is spot on! I can sell march next year for around £1200 with tax and 5 months M.O.T.
Bought for £500
welding £500
=7 months of enjoyment !

Thank you steve!! Some sense! That would be great to get some more quotes! No rush to finish this project mate and I can pay cash. Look forward to your call tmrw, will be in all day with the little one. Leave a message if we've gone out for a walk!
i was thinking if neglected body so bad the engine, bushes, suspension would have been allso plus when rott starts its only a matter of time before it gets eaten by the rust bug as they all do! even when money is threw at them! no such thing as a cheap sporT
Maybe it's just never been garaged used alot in the wet and been on the roads 22 years! Mint E30's on D plates have normally had plenty of welding lots of paint unless they have low mileage and lived in the dark for 22 years! Remeber you pay £3250 for a mint tech 1 not £500! The diff, alloys/tyres and gearbox alone are worth £500 or more!
sounds like you need a good resto project.
if you can do it and save a tech1 then crack on!
if the job is done right and colmpleted well then it could return you money because you have done a good resteration project!
if you can take picture of the process then do it cause when you sell it this pictures will show how much work has gone into it.
and im sure we would like to see all the pics of a resto too.
good luck

but that one obviously hasnt been well maintained or the mature owners wouldnt have allowed the rust to get so bad or had suspect mot's done.Steve-E30 wrote:240k isnt that bad if its been well maintained
