Does anyone know if anyother BMW flywheels can be used on the S50 lump - just that it looks a bt heavy assed n i reckon it could do with a weight loss program...

According to the American sites, the E30 flywheel can be used with the M50/M52. Is'nt the S50 very similar? (I don't know for definate so I'm ready to be flamed on this)
I know I'll be looking very closely at this on my M50 swap.

I've just stuck a M20B25 flywheel on my M54. Seems to fit OK.
Make sure you use a starter motor with matching teeth.

I looked in to this Jhonno, as a cost effective way of lightening and ditching the cush drive/dual mass mess.

I was told to use an S14 flywheel with 40 thou machined off the diameter, and an E36 ring gear fitted.

hmmm sounds like it might be fairly expensive to sort.. not that many s14 flywheels lying around..

what clutch would you use with that? Im using an e36 m3 5 speed box.

So what's wrong with the E30 325 one then? Fits straight on the M54 with E30 325 starter motor. Driven plate is same size as the M54, but I used an E36 320 driven plate, because it looks a bit beefier in the middle and I have a spare brand new on. All this mates straight on to an E34 M50 gearbox, in place of the M54 auto box that came with it.

I can't remember the 'ins and outs' of it, because it wasn't persued, but isn't the S14 flywheel lighter as standard?

There was mention of people using an E34 Auto back plate, which I didn't understand fully.???

Clutch was irrelavent to me, so I didn't ask, but an S14 cover with an equivalent diameter/appropriate spline, driven plate should work OK.
