This was the final list of parts I needed to do the rebuild. Everything else I got from the specialist or from GSF but I wanted to make sure these parts fitted etc so used BMW. This bloody rebuld has cost about twice as much so far as I expected it to! The list below is worth 230 alone!

head gasket
head studs
timing belt
tensioner
oil stem seals
cam o-ring and seals
seals for rocker shafts
seal for inlet manifold to oil pipe in block
gasket for pipe at back of head
gasket for thermostat housing
inlet manifold gasket and nuts
6 manifold studs
rocker cover studs
2x oil filter
screw for dizzy cap
body colour paint Ԛ—a Dolphin Grey

The only thing I cant get are the screws that hold the dizzy in place. I dont want to fork out for a new one just for the sake of some screws. Any idea where I could get some? Anyone here got any lying around?! :)

I know exactly how you feel Adam,

I hoped mine would cost about Ԛ£400 max, it ended up costing twice that due to bits cropping up and using all genuine bits etc.

The killer at the end for another Ԛ£75 was the exhaust manifold not being flat and having to have that machined. It may be worth checking it out mate.

It runs nice now though. :)

The full top end gasket set and head bolts alone cost Ԛ£210 from BMW. :x

The exhaust manifold was sweet before the old head went as I changed the gasket a few weeks before it. Hopefully it should be sound.
Just waiting on the new spring for the cam belt tensioner and then I should have everthing I need.
Better get outside and start methinks!

I cant get any engine assembly lube anywhere. Would it be ok if I just smeared some new oil on the parts instead?

I know they used the proper lube on mine, but that was because they stripped the head and rebuilt it..... :?

Someone else should know! :)

Bet you can't wait for it to be ready!

Yeah Im putting in the cam and valves etc from my old head as they look in good condition. The head on the car was rebuid before by BMW at 40k miles for some reason.
I cant wait to get it sorted but at the same time I couldnt be arsed going out side to start on it. lol
