i've modded the gear linkage, using the front part of the e30 and the back part of the e34,
Image
the front part was turned upside down to accomodate the offset gear box,
the gear stick sits bang in the middle, no hammering needed, only had to twist it slightly, works just like before!!

got the linkage and the prop bolted up tthis afternoon, exhasut is the only major job left to do!!

i've connect the exhaust up, modded the steering linkage instead of messing about with the manifold,
Image
theres about 5mm clearance, gonna wrap the manifolds with exhaust heat wrap.
used the standard radiator for now,
Image
took it for a test drive this evening and felt really good,
need to get a fan , tidy the wiring and sort out a air box!!

saab radiator fitted, slotted in nice and easy
Image
also got a twin speed relay setup from a laguna, need to get a temp switch to hook it up tp the radiator!!

anyone doing a m50 swap should definately change the water pump, i had so much headache today with over heating and steam, so took out the water pump and it had no fins left, the knuckle was rounded off, luckly they were still in the chamber!! couldn't get hold of a pump today, everywhere was closed, i had a m20 pump lying around, took the metal fins off that and fitted'em to the m50 pump, no more over heating and 30 odd quid saved!! winkeye

Were you lucky enough to already have the aluminium thermostat housing? If not I'd consider getting one. The plastic ones never seal right after they've been off...

Good work otherwise. I like the steering coupling. I am considering making something similar using E34 parts, though I paid through the nose for a maifold that definately fits with the guibo tye column.

no, not enough space between engine and rad, although i've read some where, a desiel viscous clutch is slimmer than a normal one, which will allow you to fit a viscous coupled fan, i've not come across a desiel to know for sure.

i prefer the viscous setup as its not as noisy as the electric fan!! :?

i welded small metal bracket to the gearbox xmember, about an inch high, basically a flat piece of metal bent to reguired height..
hang the gearbox mount to it, then just measure the gap between the xmember and the mount, knock up a camel hump back shape and you have a mounting, leave sides open for the nut!! :D

i think on the next one i'll use the m50 or m42 gearbox, m20 works great, just to save the hassle..
