I got into my f reg 325i this morning and the clutch pedal felt strangely soft. When i took off the "take" was very low and a bit tight to slip it into gear. Any idea what the issue could be, bearing in mind that i am not very mechanically minded. Prior to this the clutch was not slipping.

Cheers

Sounds like the hydraulic clutch is losing pressure.
It'll be either the seals in the slave cylinder or master or both that are worn.
Best advice is to replace both.

As Spadge has posted.Any leak may not be apparent as the fluid has a nasty habit of running down the clutch pedal and into the carpet, soaking through and attacking the floorpan.... :(

Thanks Spadge, Daimlerman. Anybody close to me willing to take on this work, I would rather give it to a Zoner than a garage ?

Just got home from work(used public transport today  ) and checked the clutch pedal, carpets footwell. No sign of any fluid so I am guessing its the slave? Thanks for the offer Spadge may take you up on that if i can't get it sorted locally.

Got home and had another look at the footwell - still dry. So i decided to start her up and try the clutch again....could not believe that the clutch felt normal again. Took her for a short run to the local shop and the clutch felt absolutely normal....how can 1 day of not driving resolve the issue or is there something more sinister for me to be wary of ?

Still could be cylinder leakage, mine did exactly as you say, would get me to the end of my road and back before it started losing pressure. For the price of the parts and ease of installation it would be wise to do this anyway mate, not much else to go wrong really :D
Wanted: Any old component speakers, complete or separate parts, let me know what you got :D

I've got a working s/hand slave here that might do the trick for you - easy fit and 1/2hr tops work - i'll fit it for you if required.

I'm in Ware just off the A10.

Woke up this morning and the car wouldn't go into gear at all.

Clutch fully pressed it just would not go into R, 1st, 2nd or 3rd - could struggle it into 4th and 5th but that was no good to me.

When pushing it towards 1st the car would slowly move forward but it would not engage the gear, same with reverse - car would slowly move backwards trying to engage but wouldnt sit into gear.

Is this a clutch issue or the gearbox? Thinking its the clutch though :(
