Hello has anybody had experience running high grade fuel in an m20 engine ? i have a m20b25 track car.
i am asuming the timing may need adjusting and different temp plugs would be good.
have an elec fan fitted too.
thankswill

well yes, theres no knock sensor in an M20 so the management can't adjust timing/fueling to suit, so you will need it mapped for high octane first before any difference could be made.

As above, no real advantage without remapping. Its basically a high octane leaded petrol, without ignition advance won't do anything except run colder. We used it in 2 stroke race bikes to keep them in one piece, never felt the need in a 4 stroke engine.

ok thank you, so i need to advance the ignition timing basically ???
i have a friend who has an ecu business and does ecu work/rebuilding etc etc etc
should he be able to do it then ? i take it the setting on a standard ecu can be altered without replacing the chips or is custom engine management needed ???
sorry to sound like a dunce I have only just got into my bmw's and dont know much about them yet
!
thanks in advance

hmmm
im still not sure if this is worth the effort.

you reckon it could harm my engine ? what about 50/50 with pump fuel

Wouldn't it rot the fuel lines/injector seals?

What would be the point? you'd have to run it like that all the time!Driftnething wrote:hmmm

Complete waste of time and money and since higher octane does not mean more power either what is it your hoping to achieve? High octane fuel requires more energy to ignite it does not neccesarily release more power on burning than a lower octane fuel, for this reason itis used in high power applications where ALOT of heat is a by product of big BHP as the higher octane reduces the chances of the fuel detonating premeturely before the plugs fire, (pinking).
