mabey trying this soon, ive got a basic grasp of what i need to do, but is it as easy as it sounds??

NO, its heavy work, and if you dont have a lift its very tight, make sure you have an alignment tool otherwise you will not get the box back on! If it doesnt fit by hand dont be tempted to force it on ussing the bolts or a hammer.

Not to bad doing it on axle stands, as long as you get the car high enough to get the gearbox out. In some ways it's easier manouvering the gearbox a few inches off the ground, rather than six feet in the air.
Changed plenty of clutches in various cars and never used an alignment tool yet. Just look in from the end and ensure that everything forms nice even concentric circles. Clutch plate can be lined up fairly well by looking for a nice even gap all round between the outer edge of the friction plates and the edge of the flywheel face.
Use a couple of long bolts with their heads cut of screwed into the rear of the engine block to guide the box on and off. (In place of two of the large gearbox fixing bolts).
