Was driving down the M40 from Stratford today, what did I see pulling onto the motorway at junction 12, crusing along at 60?
Bloody MINT (and I mean mint) 325i sport.
Bright Red, it must have been garaged, not a spot of rust anywhere. Paint work genuinely gleaming!
All very well and good you say, but who was driving it?
bloody 70 year old granny!!!!!
Argh! I tried to comfort myself with the thought that it must have been a son/grandson's pride and joy, but it was no good. In a few years she'll probably give it to her local garage in exchange for a Micra.
Anyone else get annoyed (read: jealous!) when they see someone driving a car that they're not 'entitled' to drive, or is it just me?

On the other hand she's probably still taking it to the main dealer for servicing and putting a thousand miles a year on it. One day it'll turn up in Autotrader and you'll be there to snap it up

Did you get the reg, you might be able to find out who the owner is and if it's the auld one, you could get in touch with her and let her know how keen you are to have it, she might sell or give you a shout when she is willing to sell. It's worth asing about if it's that clean.

So what makes you think that you have more of a right to drive that car then? It is possibly her much cherished pride and joy and is given far more TLC than ever you might provide. Anyone is entitled to drive any car they own provided they hold a valid licence to drive it. Sounds like it has been very well looked after in its first 20 or so years, could you have done the same? Moreover, would or could you do the same for the next 20 years?shalmaneser wrote:Was driving down the M40 from Stratford today, what did I see pulling onto the motorway at junction 12, crusing along at 60? Also, how do you know that your own driving skills are better than hers? Just because you think she's a pensioner, does not mean she's incompetent on the road. There may be some doddery, overly cautious, older drivers about. Equally, there are younger, inexperienced, overly confident and downright dangerous drivers in cars they are clearly incapable of controlling. I'm not suggesting that you are in this latter category because I know nothing about you. You should not imply that the driver of the Sport falls into the first category either.

Although I suspect that I'd probably get more pleasure than her from driving it about!
Maybe she revels in the delicate poise and handing too, but i suspect she'd be as happy (if not more) tooling about in a nice new fiesta with climate control, traction control, electronic brake force distribution, and every other fancy pants gadget that new cars seem to have. That is the bit i find a bit sad. I'd hate to have a new fiesta!

Haha, wow DavieP, take it easy dude. I think shalmaneser was just making a funny point, not seriously suggesting that someone wasn't entitled to drive what they like!
Car sounds awesome though, I'd take the advice above and see if you can't track it down!

Then taken the car

Ahem, sorry. Huge apologies Shalmaneser and others - was feeling pretty down due to being unwell over the weekend and read your post the wrong way. Normally I don't give a monkey's about comments like that - dunno what got into me. Today's another day, pain has subsided a bit and a ruddy big box with OBC plus all the bits turned up
Next time, I'll take a very deep breath before going

Lots of older people driving these. Got them as company cars (maybe) bought them of the company when they retired after missing the initial depreciation. Still great cars so they keep them looking nice, well serviced, don't put many miles on them, just hope I find anothershalmaneser wrote:Bloody MINT (and I mean mint) 325i sport.

My Dad, at 72 used to love taking my D reg 325i chromie out for a spin back in 2001.
I used to work at a Honda dealership and a regular occurence was that elderly ladies would roll up in old but immaculate bits of heavy metal that had been left by a well heeled deceased husband.
I guess they hung on to the cars until practicality overshadowed sentiment.

The son of the old guy inherited the car but it was just an old BMW to him so he sold it straight on to the friend of the family (Adam the guy who painted Si13's Alpina) who i bought it off two years ago.Speedtouch wrote:How did he accept the payment and change the logbook?bss325i wrote:The original owner of my black tech2 sport was 70 when he bought it in 89, when he passed away at 85 a friend of the family bought it off him
