my 88 320i is idling badly and is a sod when cold,

have you tried cleaning the icv? quite common thing, usually sorts out bad cold idle

I have the same prob when cold,if i touch the accelerator it seems to wanna stall before picking the refs up...
I need to clean the AFM and the TB i think when i got time

yours sounds as though its got the same gripes as mine
looks like we got some work to do,suppose it means taking off
the throttle body etc and giving it a good clean up?

the ICV is the Idle Control Valve
its located to the left of the air filter box (feeds into the pipe beteen the Throttle body and the air filter)
poor idle/revving when cold could also be caused by a faulty temperature sensor (blue)
