with borbet c's :D

before i cleaned it. doesnt stay clean long :(

just bought it for £200 of the zone as the engine and box sound shot.

i dont mind because its getting my m30

so right now i have put my 6 pot front legs on with a -40mm drop and on standard rear tourer springs until the post man lets me have the -40mm spring (thanks zaust)

then when the big 6 is in it should sit about an inch lower 8)

right here is the before:

Image

cant wait to get it low.

this was my plan before i bought the tourer:

found this shell to move the m30 from my 4door poo pot to something tasty.
nice 2 door which had a early high comp 2.5 in it but it didnt run as the gearbox sensors had failed.
i thought i could get a facelift loom and slap it on with a crank. but failed after about 4 trips to darlington from manchester

Image

looks rough but all the bits are there i just needed to put it back together
just like that :o:

Image
my delightful bottle tops which are now on my girlfriends polo. will paint them black soon. look really good actually.

so after towing the car around places we could find to work on it with andy's (Gall) old 335i
did it at his work place

Image
in the back ground, my old volvo i used to do the long trips in

here is another pic
Image

loved it
70's action shot:
Image
sorry back to the bmw

i asked carl (jaffro) really nicely if he would tow me on a straight bar the 150 (-ish i cant remember think it was 170) miles on b-roads back to manc.

it worked out i towed him. so i was in his nice focus with music and fans on the hot day. while he was in the 2door no fans no nothing for 4 hours
thanks again man.
another one of our nuts trip :D
but that trip will NEVER be repeated!

we got it to mine dropper the engine in the 2 door and tried like you would not believe to get it started but....................nothing.

Image

so i moved to a flat and had to move the 2door again.....Carl....umm

another tow session later (just around manchester this time) with my girlfriends 1.4 polo 8O :P and she or carl didnt kill me!!!!

Image

Image

was going to paint it volvo dark grey like the tech 2 kti i have been preping

Image

its in my garage now waiting to be stripped and sent to the scrappy where it should be. so many patches have been welded. yes by a pro but the scutle has gone on one side and i have already had a complaint against me for making the place look like a work shop.

then jaffro did more research and realised the loom plugs have different pins. so we would have to wire the later plug and match it up. or put a full face lift body loom in. :( so after a quick think and a quick search, that evening i was off to buy the touer:

nice bloke, honest sale.

so on with the borbet c's,
now i need to:

lower it
put the 3.64 slipper on
rip the 4pot smoker out
drop the big 6 in
weld up my m3 exhaust

and put another MOT on it by then.

question is do i keep the iS lip spoiler or put the fiberglass tech2 kit on?

thing is im going to keep the tow bar so i would have to cut up the rear bumper to make it fit right :?

may just wait and see?

oh got my SE skirts to fit too.

this thread does not explain the nightmare this engine swap has been.
dont know if anyone remembers my thread 'e30, shoehorn, m30' ?

may do a 'part deux' as jaffro suggested? but this will be the third time the engine has been dumped in a car and not run.

wow that was a long write :o:

sounds like you've been on a mission  just like when you picked the kit up from me

the touring looks sweet with the borbet c's

fit the m tech kit, so what if you have to cut it, it's only a fibreglass replica

if you do and want to sell the iS lip, I'm interested

yes Mr Ziggy Jaffro is a leg-end! a bonkers one at that!

we have had some nuts trips to get parts. a good one as SNOOPS said was in his focus (again) and we picked up a full set of grey leather seats with red pipping (very nice) from gooners down in northampton, then on the way back we stopped in birmingham to pick up a reiger kit 8O fit it all in the focus!!!!!!!!!

i dont think you could call my seating position seated. side skirt in face, seat right to its most forward position while i was hugging the end of a bumper.

carl was the same but he was driving. hahahaha
oh and there was an accident on the m6 too.

manic times but funny ones. next is our trip to pick up carls m50 but thats when he gets back from protugal.

i knew someone would want the iS spoiler, im supprised no one has tried to rip the tech1 spoiler off me yet.
i have another iS spoiler but its in 2 bits :( might see if i can bodge it and sell the good lip? but that wont be very soon as my girlfriend did all the painting and sanding on it. :D

Hello mate, looks like you have been busy!! M30 touring has to be the best combination there is, looks pretty tidy as well. I would leave the iS lip on rather than the tech 2 kit, bit of a sleeper then!

After finally finishing my touring I bought another one, thinking about putting my m30 in it, glad I'm not the only one chopping engines around!!

Keep the pictures coming mate :thumb:

im finished switching engines all over the shop jay!

This is the last one! its much better starting with a nice clean shell. this one seems to be a minter (fingers crossed)

i found the slightest bit of rot under the pointless mud gaurds at the front but other than that im well happy!

i think me and Jaffro will be buying a engine crane this weekend and slamming the big lump in if we can.

such a pain getting the engine in position 3. im going to do it right this time and make sure the bulk head is pushed back.

hope to have plenty of pics this weekend 8) im weldign the m3 exhaust tonight - flash dance moment me think

Christ you boys don't rest for a minute. Would love to have a drive of this Ric when you get it done!

I'm off to pick up a 60k mile e34 525 on thursday, erm, 350 miles away! I think we all need more stimulating careers or something...

And yeah jaffro is a leg-end for sure.

Cool, how come you both decided against the m30's in the end??

Is ric about at all? I pm'd him about that exhaust he made for his 335i, wanted to build one myself but if he is selling his m30 gear he may get shot of the exhaust aswell?? :D

we love a bonkers day and messing about putting engines in and out of cars.....

well now all has been sorted out and the cab has a nice m50 which was in about 30mins and started the next morning after about 30 mins. easy!

the tourer is now back to the m30 which is in and fired up the same day we fired up the m50  happy days!

so jay enjoy the big dirty 3incher and i will spend some tim fitting the m3 exhaust :D

i may start a new thread in the engine swap section?

i have bought some poly engine mounts as the e34 ones have failed, just not strong enough with the angle of th mounts. i will add pics up soon. also found the mounts from beefy (.de copies) need to be modified to fit the manual steering rack in position 3 :( get the grinder out

will have to re weld them though :(

then its just a case of bolt it together oh and do teh rear sub frame bushes too.

i said 2 weeks max for this but im waiting for parts at the mo to carry on. MOT needed too

right people i have been playing with the motor, here is some progress:

while it had teh 1.8 in it i did some driving to pic up some bits:

Image

Image

was great to drive an e30 again but then i took the motor out and stated messing about:

lowered teh back -40 nut found the rear bushes to be shot - more on that later

Image

missing an engine
Image

now to exhaust

flange to mount the down pipes to m3 exhaust
Image

Image

had to weld the exhaust back to one as i had to cut it at gooners to make it fit in car :(

forgot this pic :)
Image

got engine in but had a prob with engine mounts.
beefy's .de copies are cracking and im well happy with them buti dont think they were made tofit in position 3 with a manual rack so teh grinder came out  they are great mounts and i woulr recomend them to anyone.

here is how i adjuted them to fit

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

the rubber mounts just are not strong enough and teh driver side tends to fail due to the funky angle the metal mount sits at.
so i got some poly engine mounts of ebay which are good but it would eb better if it was just a threaded bar through them as they are actually a bit week :( so i will drill the bars out and just put a bolt through it.

this one is perfect! :D
Image

right back to those shot bushes, i tried to put the axles stands under the rear frame and the frame just went up in the car 8O so i set about the bushes (i wish i had paid some one to do it because what started as the frame bushes has turned into a full rear end build:

Image

since my land lord is doing his best to kick me out for my 'heavy machinery' i have tried to disguise the the fact i have no rear end winkeye

Image

Image

no one would know :D but i could not get the back end low enough to be cool

Image

Image

lets hope he doesnt go out the back of my car :?

now i have to organise the wiring and fit the exhaust....after another day or 2 with the rear end  going to order a poly bush trailing arm set and fit them then fit it all together with the LSD.

just need to crack on......should really have been out there rather than doing this. oh well my 2 weeks is out the window cause of the back end

this really should be in the engine swap section :? oops

some good work done at the weekend :D

Jaffro came round and we nearly got all the bushes done. they all got burnt out but the sub frame bushes just wont get in fully

we even used a trolly jack under and tried to use the weight of the car to push the bush in but for some reason i cant get the last 1cm in. hehe

so i welded up the down pipes for the exhaust:

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

so once the subframe bush has been pressed in i can hook it all back up put the new hand brake cables and new flexi brake lines n and happy days.

exhaust is ready to go on.
prop is ready to go on.
diff is ready

its all ready i just need to fix up wiring, make it pretty (jaffro) and then the dreaded cooling system :(

then i will drive the old beasty :D
