hi all,
whats the best way to remove/replace the bush on the diff back plate? can it be done without using a proper press?

i was thinking i could maybe burn it out and then use a large vice to press a new one in?

any thoughts anyone?

cheers

I did mine a while back by just tapping it out with a small hammer.

Same method putting the new one in. :)

They are slightly oval though so make sure it's going in the right way.

I removed the diff backplate(buy a new gasket..count the number of bolts as two diffs are used)cut or burn the rubber remains out, then thread a hacksaw blade through the hole and carefully cut the steel outer. You may be able to press the new(Z3M?) bush in using your vice but I had to send mine to the local bus co's garage(the wife works there) for expert help.Do check the position of the old bush so that the new one goes in the correct position..

Just a question guys:
Is it possible to remove the bush without totally removing the diff from the car?
I mean without unbolt the propeller shaft and the output shafts from diff. :?:

Well, I have to drain out the fluid and buy a new gasket, right?
Is it difficult to do?

No other way without removing the diff?

Yes,drain diff, remove back plate, proceed as already stated.Difficult part is pressing new bush in, you may need to ask a garage to do this.If so,mark the bush and holder so they can fit the bush in the correct position.Fit a new gasket and fill with fresh oil.Do not forget to plug the speedo wire in.

Before you do that, make sure you can get the filler plug undone.

No good if you drain the oil, the filler plug rounds off and you can't put enough oil back in! :?

What kind of oil for the diff?
Is it an expensive oil?

That depends if it's a limited slip or an open differential.

It is very easy to put new bush in the cover - it is all alloy

Put the bush in the freezer to make it as small as possible.

Have a look at;
