Looking at pistonheads all the e30s on there are 2drs for sale how do the prices compare for 2dr and 4dr.....
2 drs seem to go £1k -> £4K + for a gooden...
Hows the pricing for a 4dr ? are these getting rarer now as there seems to be less about....

I thought the prices for 2 doors was more as the 4 door more common and less desirable ?
Previously owned loads of old E30s, E34s, a few E36s, E32s, E39s and an E38.
Currently in a diesel Audi - miss me old E30's....

Mine's worth at least £4k.......
To be fair my ebay fetish lately has thrown up quite a few 1 owner 4drs being sold for old gents who bought them new when they retired and have now been told they can't drive any more, usually 318s and 320s and often autos. I've yet to see one break a grand, and some of them look mint and have full dealer history and cock all miles etc. The one I bought has had 4 cambelts in 70k miles! The schedule says every 4 years so that's what it had!!! 4dr 325s seem to be rare as rocking horse poo though, haven't seen many in presentable nick, I reckon they generally led harder lives and have almost all been fragged. Who wants one though, except for a freak like me?

my dad bought a 4door 325i SE with 113k, FSH, mint sports leather, obc, tweeter pods basically everything including mtech suspension with no MOT and TAX for £140
then put MOT n TAX on it and it lasted about 9 months and would have carried on but we decided to break it
unfortunately 4 doors are generally cheaper and are great breakers as they sometimes have a high spec but the main argument is if you want 4 doors have a touring with more space

4 doors ain't worth a w8nk, sounds harsh but it's true they are the unloved E30. mate it to a 320 and an auto box and you have what they call a bad card lol.
I wouldn't pay more than £1000 for a mint 325iSE optionmiester as in A/C,cruise,sports leathers,LSD,heated seats etc

I like having 4 doors personally - easier to get stuff in the back (no rear seats), tyres etc, also means I can fit non reclining bucket seats, which weigh less/are more rigid and are cheaper. Easier to get people into should I want to put the seats back in too. The 4 doors are cheaper to buy too.
Got a mate who got a 4dr 325 the other day for sub £500, T&T'd too.

Lol, shush ;)
There was a 4dr with a 318iS engine for sale when I was looking (which I got), and no touring with an iS engine! I'll probably get a touring next time tbh. Nice thing, my springs/shocks etc can be changed over to the touring, so I can get it sitting just the right height straight off! Takes me 20 mins to remove a strut normally, done it so many times!
Bit off topic, but do you know if the M42 sump is lower than M40's, M30's, M20's etc? Mine seems REALLY low. Saying that, the rubber engine mounts seem to be short too.

I've just bought my first E30 4 doors, 320i and auto!!!!!!!, its an early 1984 'A' reg car and i absolutely love it, now it might not be to everybodys taste, but i think what youve said is a little harsh about us 4 door owners cars been wa*k, i think it deserves to be saved just as much as your car, which happens to be coming on very very nicely and i'm sure will be absolutely stunning when finished and a credit to your hardwork and commitment to the cause.Simon13 wrote:4 doors ain't worth a w8nk, sounds harsh but it's true they are the unloved E30. mate it to a 320 and an auto box and you have what they call a bad card lol.

I hope i havent offended you with my response, each to there own, we would all be boring if we all liked same things
There are lots of modded cars on here that i've seen that i wouldnt personally like, however i wouldnt put them down though as i'm sure that there owners love them just as much as we do our cars.
Its not going to be my only E30 now as i've got the bug, just wish i'd got it sooner
You can see my car here if you want, at the moment i'm giving it a bit of a clean up for this year, next year a full repaint will be in order.

Diddler - lovely looking motor, in fantastic condition! I certainly can't fault that, nor your cleaning skills. But in my opinion, probably echoed by Simon and a few others, thats probably about the worst engine/gearbox combo out there! Its a bad engine anyway, sluggish, aweful economy, and not much power, and mixed with an autobox? It'll be even worse!
But as long as you enjoy it!

I didnt worry about price when i bought this, i was after a sound early E30 and it just happened to have 4 doors and apparently the worse engine/gearbox combo ever invented!!!! hey hoo
I did notice thou regarding prices you could get a better speced and good condition 4 door for less money than a 2 door with less spec in slightly worse condition, now i know why
Personal choice at the end of the day

Diddler total agree with you if we all loved the same thing the world would be a boring plaace and we all require different needs from our car.The_Diddler wrote:First of all I dont agree with you Simon13 I dont believe there unloved i love mine and it sounds like a few others on here do aswellSimon13 wrote:4 doors ain't worth a w8nk, sounds harsh but it's true they are the unloved E30. mate it to a 320 and an auto box and you have what they call a bad card lol.

A 2 dr is no good really if you have kids\mates in and out of the back.
A touring you lug loads round in
Still going back to price there are rough 2 drs out there asking £3K -> 4.5K
Then youre saying a mint 4dr gets a £1k mine Ive spent over £6K on and wont\wouldnt put up for £1k
My pride and joy below

An estate, you lug loads around in, but BMW don't make estates. The nominal load capacity of a touring is actually much less than that of a saloon, because of the side panels/pockets.Car-Nut wrote:A touring you lug loads round in
The tourings have the best weight distribution, the best aerodynamics, the best suspension and the best brakes of any standard E30, bar the M3.

Nice car saw it in the BMW car club mag, nice work there, can see why it would demand a lot more money if ever sold.
As for mine i paid sub £1k for it, it does however need a full respaint, 24 years has been kind to the car but also 24 years of little chips and knocks here and there etc, plus surface scabbing around arches that need sorting, when finished it will definately be worth more than 1K but thats my opinion based on its got the wrong engine gearbox combo and 2 too many doors

We never got the Touring in Australia, so it's either 2 or 4 doors for us.
The 2 doors are way more popular than the 4 doors.
I have a 4 door 325i. About 95% of the 325i sedans sold in Australia had auto transmissions. Mine is a manual. It has a far superior spec to most 2 doors. When I was looking for an E30 325i manual there were three available in my state at the time: two 2 doors and 1 sedan (325i manuals in either 2 or 4 door are getting harder and harder to source in Australia). I bought the sedan for substantially less than what was being asked for the 2 doors. Personally, the 4 door suits me more than a 2 door would ~ but that's just me......

Personally driving around in an estate when you are 20-odd is abit wrong even if it is the sweetest looking estate. The 4 door is a good compromise between the touring and the coupe, practical but without the family man image.

Diddler mate, its just an opinion ;)
And ignore pacerpete's comments about 4 doors, I've a feeling he genuinely hates them and makes such comments whenever possible. But we all love him anyway.

Market forces currently say that 2 doors are more desirable than 4.When these cars were current, the market place could not get enough of the 4 door version, they carried a huge price premium over the 'unwanted' 2 door, to the extent that BMW(GB) had the 'sport' version built to try and make the 2 door more appealing.... strange how things change...
..I find a tuned 4 door the perfect 'sleeper'...
