I know I posted this in a thread before, but nobody ever looks at old threads, so I thought I'd post the latest news as a new one...

I decided to try these fancy petrosl to see if they lived up to their advertising blurb, ie 3000+ mpg etc.

First one was Esso Energy Unleaded. After cleaning my injectors, I ran several tankfuls of ordinary petrol through, always getting between 26 and 28mpg. I live a boring life, same journeys every day...

First tankful of the Esso stuff finished last night - 25mpg.

Not a good start. I filled up with BP Ultimate last night... I'll let you know!

never noticed a difference in performance or consumption when using any 98 ron fuels. Oh and never really seem to get any more than 15-20mpg!

Yes, I used to get that kind of consumption until I cleaned my injectors... now don't ask, 'cos I don't know - somebody suggested it, and after 156000 miles they will be WELL clogged - but I went from 20/22 to 26/28.

Just like that. Ah-hah-hah. Ah-hah-hah.

Well, I normally get 320 miles to a tank from normal UL. BP Ultimate gives me about 250 miles.
Once driven, forever smitten.
Direct injection, turboed, intercooled, 16 valves giving a whopping 48.5hp/litre!! :(

I did 346 miles on 55 ltrs Asda cheap unleaded the other day which = 28.6 MPG whilst the OBC said 26.2MPG. Then on the way back I stopped and filled up with Esso cheap stuff and then did 338 miles on 57 ltrs which = 27.04 MPG whilst the OBC displayed 25 ish. Dunno how that works :D

that was gonna be my surprise for ya Daz......

seeing as how you say 50 miles to a Ԛ£10.....

I filled my 320 touring with Ԛ£20 of gas at 81.9p a litre when the light was on (24.43 litres=5.43 gallons)

drove it exclusively about town and managed, wait for it.......

180 miles

so that works out as 33.15mpg (and the light isnt on yet 8O  )

looks like you need to work on the lead foot mate

that was last week-its 83.9 now

I'd change the oil and coolant-make sure the thermostat is working ok so the ECU isnt overfuelling all the time (thinking the car is cold)

Check the Plugs and rotor cap too, and make sure the air filter is clean!

and try and shift up when it hits the 15mpg marker!!!!then keep it above 30 in 4th/5th as much as possible

I just finished a tank of petrol recently, mostly city driving and being trying to be fairly economical and also 1 Autocross event, which involved about 100km of 60mph 5th gear cruising to get there and back and then 14 laps of the autocross circuit (dirt circuit) at race speed. I averaged 13mpg, under the same conditions my fathers Lancer Evolution VI (2L turbo, AWD, 1360kg) averaged 20mpg. My car has had the injectors ultrasonic cleaned and has a standalone engine management system (which I guess should reduce petrol consumption like a chip does?), and 4.1 LSD (increase petrol consumption). I am sure I used to get better than this though because that seems a bit silly, especially a heavier 2L turbo with the extra drag of AWD getting better petrol consumption?

That was with BP Ultimate which is 98 RON here. I can only use 98 RON petrol now that I have the computer.

My 325 auto is really good on a long run, but tragic round town when it comes to consumption.

Oh, and our fuel up here is 95p / ltr !!!!!!!

My Ԛ£20 of cheapy fuel (asda/morrisons/tescos) will return some 130-150 miles everytime, I do GUN it to work some days, third gear is usually maxed everyday and due to some nasty roadworks and having to get back home as quick as I can I've opened the taps most nights this week, done 109 miles and now in the red. My OBC tells lies, so it's going in the bin soon anyway, replaced with a BOOST gauge :D

My "car share" work mate annouced the other night when I opened the taps "the only time I've been this fast in a car was in a Ferrari and I was driving!"

Made me :D

Go the frugal iS: 47mpg over 190 miles to Stonehenge and back.

I laugh at the consumption of your M20s!

I've been thinking on how to fit this HUGE coolant temp sensor, the rest is quite straight forward, should take me a few hours to wire in.....but can't fire it up until the Lambda sensor is fitted, which I can't fit till the exhaust is made, which I can't have made till the turbo is fitted, which can't be fitted till we weld the manifold, which is in Ant's shed till weekend after.......getting there tho!!

Riding ....Suzuki Hayabusa.

100MPH isnt even half way thru the rev range

sadly my 535 sport will show 19MPG on the OBC @ 100MPH and averages 13MPG across town.

the car and the bike both kick out 160BHP at the wheel(s), just shows what a difference power to weight makes eh?

Assuming 84p/L then Ԛ£20 = 5.24 gallons

130 / 5.24 = 24.81mpg
