I found this sub and amp that can go under a seat.


What have people done?

Mate of mine used something similar in his porsche and said it sounded good - never heard it personally though!!!

Find a shop that can demo it before you buy!!!!

I bought one of the alpine jobs from halfrauds last week for under the seat (it was ex display and got a good deal ) the bass you get can be felt more than heard if you get what i mean, unfortunately when your driving i found you dont really notice it much at all ( i had mine under the passenger seat to try it) if your looking for good bass i think you will be pretty disappointed with this solution, however if your other half sits in the passenger seat she may not be, as it does fair vibrate the seat its under

Get your self a small low power 8" in a seald box a small amp. will do you fine if you just want fill.

Basically I want a little bass but nothing mental and anything has gotta be better than those weedy 5.25's.

Don't want anything in the boot at all. You saying build my own 'under-the-seat' thing?

How much bass are you after? Because two 6.5" speakers in each door gives quite a kick and will sound better than those small sub/amp things. If you want more bass than that you need a proper sub in the boot.

Don't want door builds or boxes in back.

At this point, most people would say forget it. Surely that's the point though - how can we overcome this problem?

Why are you being so fussy anyway? I don't see the problem with door builds or sub boxes, they can be integrated neatly.

Just don't want any changes/additions to the boot or interior. Is that fussy? No, it's just how I want it.

Still haven't heard why Sub under seat is a bad idea - I suspect the negative comments are coming from big ICE fans with serious gear. Put yourselves in my shoes - I don't want all that stuff.

6 x 9's are also out as you have to butcher the parcel shelf / sheet metal which is a no go.

Two 6.5" speakers in each door gives quite a kick and will sound better than those small sub/amp things.

You can actually find 6 1/2" subs that work quite well in a small door enclosue, and give more kick than those mid/mid bass units you get in an off the shelf component set.

I currently use a pr of 6 1/2" MB Quart subs in a small sealed enclosures where the door pockets would normally be fitted.
I feed them with between 80hz and about 250hz for bass/mid bass and use the pr of 12's in the boot for the 30hz-80hz frequencies

No you don't - you can buy (or make) a pair of adaptor plates that raise the height of the speaker so that you don't need to cut any metal. If you don't want to cut your shelf then get a spare one to use and keep your original shelf.

That way you could boost the lower freq's (whats actually being asked) by up to18db(PG) or 24db(Caliber) for a much needed increase in sub/mid bass freq's.

It still won't be as capable as a dedicated sub though, but would do what your asking.

take a look in my sig and buy it off me. then fit a detachable plugin the boot (much like a computer power cable or lawmower plug), then you have a removable sub with all the bass you could need

The sub under the seat idea really doesnt work mate, im no serious ice fan really, just a lover of decent sounding music, it doesnt have to vibrate every panel mirror and number plate on the car to be pleasing to my ears and im not some teenager trying to impress all the girls outside the car,(im nearly 40) but my findings to the underseat sub were, it feels more than sounds ok when your not driving, when you drive the noise from driving drowns out the audible bass and all you have left is the vibration in the car caused by the bass, i often found myself turning the stereo down just to make sure the vibration wasnt being caused by any mechanical failures etc, its your call at the end of the day mate but honestly i find i have wasted my money on this and if i can save someone else from the same mistake then at least some good came of it

Don't fully understand how electronic trickery can get bass out of a small cone but will look into it.

Will try the sub under the seat anyway - maybe the models differ in performance but your experience will definitely be in the back of my head.

Not seen any around for a while but focal made some 5" subs that got pretty good reviews!!!

In a 2 or 4 door i'd be tempted to find some of those for the back shelf and mount a little amp underneath!!

Should sound nice with some decent components!!!

Have a read up on them 1st to determine whether or not they'll do what you require

I have 2 of the caliber ones and they are pretty good
I use 1 on the 12"subs and the other on the 6 1/2" subs in the front doors
Got plenty of sub/mid bass in the front with my setup
