Ironically as my old man works in the motor trade it is more expensive for him to get insurance than me !
hows that? is it because he gets them trade plates or summin
Any policy he has for private use only insures him for that car ( he can't drive anyone elses car ) and his trade policy only covers him for driving a customers car which is work related. Because he has access to some extream cars ( Bently Continetal through to Porches , Ferrari's Astons ect ) the isurance companies will not take the risk of him being covered to take them out for a fun drive. My 325i full comp with no no-claims costs me £240 a year , my old man would put another £400 on my policy !.

Oxford is actually a really high risk area thanks to the hospitals and the large amount of crime in the car parks.

The wife's been on my policy as a learner for two years; last September she passed her test and my premium went up by over 20%.
The reasoning is that as a learner you're always accompanied by someone who won't let you be a prat; once you pass you're on your own.

Quinn Direct didn't charge me a penny to change my provisional to a full licence, I got the policy out on a provisional as it was £700 cheaper then the full.. but didn't increase once the policy had started so that may be worth checking.

1.1 pug 106... for 1800? You're looking in the wrong place.. Even my 318 (first year of driving) cost less then that!

Where is it kept over night? maybe worth saying it is kept in a garage and see how that knocks it down. Also how many miles a year are you telling them your going to be driving? Another are you using it for work? If not make sure they know this to keep the premium down a little lower.

business use will bump the premium way up unless its just commuting to and from a place of work.

small change in the scheme of things, though finding the right car for you will be more important that 316 V 318.

getting married drops the premiums a bit too... how far do you want to go? 8O :D

and being economical with the truth doesnt help either. its not the insurance companies job to interogate you but your job to declare all relevant information so using "they didnt ask" isnt an excuse either. winkeye

I was referring to the marriage comment :P

As far as I'm aware (correct me if I'm wrong) but non standard and "performance" parts come under the same category, unless the non standard parts are disposable anyway (air filtration elements etc.)

when it comes to parts like that unless its really lower then its highly unlikely the insurance company would go to the trouble of stripping your car down to check everything in the event of a claim. you pay your money you take the risk.

Depends what you crash into really.

I bet if your car damaged a nice car or two in an incident they'd be getting their fine toothcombs out rather than their chequebook. Especially when young guys are probably the most likely to "omit" a detail or two on their policy.
