Guys, i've got a clanging/metallic rattling sound coming from the drivers side rear of my 325 saloon.

I thought it might be the top mounts, but I put new ones on and it hasn't cured it.

Anyone got a ideas/suggestion?

Thanks
Jonnie

When does the noise happen? cruise, turning, accel, decel, over bumps?

If you wanna take a look at the top mounts you can open out the boot lining and bounce the car a bit.

It happens when going over bumps/rutted tarmac.

Its def not the mounts, it has ones on, just fitted.

Has the noise appeared after the new topmounts?

I've got a knocking at the rear of my E30 too. Developed about 100 miles after purchase!?!?! Which didn't impress me in the slightest by the way, anyhow, I remember there being a rubber mount attached to the Scorpion system that held a rubber 'block' to space the exhaust away from the rear beam. It now appears to be missing and the gap between the exhaust and the beam has got closer and I presume that this is the cause? Anyone shed some light on it as I can't seem to find a diagram or anything on the net to assist and no one else has any idea at the local garages. Maybe it's an exhaust thing with you too Jonnie.

I wouldn't totaly dismiss the top mounts as being the problem. I've seen several near new ones wrecked by incorrect fitting.

I Placed an excort/orion (as listed at the local HELLfrauds store) exhaust rubber between my stationary rear beam and the top of the exhaust. This cured the 'knocking' I was getting. Now i know it'll burn and eventually wear down, or disappear but it'll do for a trip to Bournemouth and back :?

Maybe............
