LPG conversion and hope for the best on the reliability front and it's a cool cruiser.
I actually looked at these before I bought my E36 Cab. These and XJRs!!

Time has been kind to these - I certainly don't think of them as a 12 year old car. A clean one with proper history would be a nice weekender.

It's just a reflection of the potentially huge repair costs. I ran an XJS four years ago and the electrical system was a nightmare. Over three years ownership I don't think I had all the electrics working at the same time in despite spending most weekends fiddling with the thing.
A great car to drive but not a car to own during a recession.

thats a very poor comparison, the xjs was built in a different era by some very poor companies, BL for example couldnt wire a toaster.Niiick wrote:It's just a reflection of the potentially huge repair costs. i dont disagree there is the potential for some big bills but i doubt they are much worse than the bills for a similar era bmw, merc etc etc.

HOW MUCH !!
I have one of these as my road car.... and despite all the horror stories you read (touch wood) I've had my 1997 one for 3.5 yrs and 15,000miles and not had any problems at all. Everything works as it did when it came out of the factory... its got the cats suspension too so handles ok and goes very well indeed in sports mode.. 0-60 in about 6.8.... and 26mog on the motorway at xxmph
Must admit I think what has driven the price down on that one is the lack of any history for the last 50k and the seats look very shabby..... and no one in their right mind would touch an unloved Jag..
So if you fancy one I can assure you you will be amazed at what you get for the money

A lot of this type of car are now very cheap!!!!
Depreciation on expensive to run cars is massive!!!! Especially with petrol prices as they are!!!!
Just look at the 7 series and see how quick they drop in price!!!!
