Anyone know the ins and outs of using M50 vanos (Bosch) engine loom and ECU to run a M52B28? (fitted with M50 inlet manifold).

If you are using a single Vanos engine it can be done - just use the right front pulley! The heads are the same so you can use all the M50 sensors.
A BMW specialist near me fitted a 2 litre iron block M50 into a cooked E39 520i so it is possible. Same garage also built a 2.8 Nikasil blocked non Vanos for an E36 Compact. Non starting was caused by using the wrong front pulley for the M50 loom which came from a 1992 non Vanos E36 320i.
