Definitely looks good, contradictory to Murran - if you can afford the top end parts, then go for it! Nice write-up too, keep up the good work!
i didnt say dont buy the top parts, if you can afford them, good for you!
just most people on a tramp budget cant, so dont.....

Well after a thoroughly good Polish p*ss up last night of polish & russian Vodka Stella & good scotch I did feel what could be described as ropey this morning but it was more like still pissed. Was limping a bit, thumb a bit broke & a fat lip from gentleman wrestling with Neil - he's such a bully. Went off at 9.30 to pester Ian - I was to be his grease monkey bitch for the day. He tried to do his own work & advise me what to do but I was a bit crap & needed someone who knows what they are doing (not just hitting stuff with hammers & drinking tea)

We were to add the springs & dampers - got the rears on really quick, no problems - the front was a pig. We came unstuck with the front koni dampers - there wasnt anything in the 'kit' to centrally locate them - have to call the suppliers for Konis number & get some advice.

Image

So springs on, top mounts, powerflex for control arms & konis at the back & the originals on the front. Feeling much more focused & level round corners

lube those bushes up with funky gold lube! 8O

Did manage to get a beer out of Ian to deal with the hangover - polish beer 7%!

Ripped off the mudflaps too - so thats another kilo :P (79 & counting)

Gotta get a cage then we're good to go. Well after a few pints of cider...purely for medication winkeye

Chip from Ant.....
Struggled to start with but after a little email support (thanks Ant!) all went in fine

Like an oyster - but its a chip youre looking for not a pearl - oh & not so fishy

Image

Careful ish, but its quite robust

Flip the electronic sandwich open carefully after realeasing some plastic pins & pulling the top board forward & upward. There it is bottom left

Image

prise it out

Image

& do everything in reverse - remembering to put the new chip in & not the old one!

Well feels a bit more eager - in my opinion the induction & chip have certainly improved how the engine revs - just sweeter & wants to go

Cheers for the comments Suchy - visited your site - like your work, interesting images.

Just grappling with the dodgy koni fronts - Europerformance put me in touch with Camberley Auto Factors - got through at last - looks like I bought the wrong ones. Well there is quite a choice:

http://www.europerformance.co.uk/pages/ ... category=1

There are 2 possibilities for 325i 4 door 1987 but look to the bottom of each product to find my missing mm - I bought 45mm & not the 51mm I needed.

mmm will they view them as 'unused' after we lubed em up & pushed them in the housings :? You can make some expensive mistakes! Wait til I hit the track & crash it on first lap!

(mods put this in Motorsport if more suited)

Update”¦..

Collected my car from Xsport Racing who were doing a whole load of work ”“ it wasn’t planned just wanted a cage fitting & I was going to get all the rest done (& more) overtime but just bit the bullet & got it done as they had good experience with these cars. I picked up quite a different car that now goes well, sounds great & has a real grin factor ”“ Xsport were good too, I’d use them again (no, no other connection with them)

They put on the Hottuning manifold ”“ I spent a few hours previously, got the dremel out on it, that should help the flow a bit ”“ you’ve seen them before but it’s a gorgeous bit of metal

Image

list of work & recent parts:

Engine mount kit
Rocker shaft and rockers
Head bolts
Head set
Fan belt
Lightening of flywheel by 2 pounds
Clutch release bearing
Valvoline Racing oil
Hottuning manifold
Miltek Stainless exhaust system
Helix motorsport clutch
Kent camshaft Kent BM63
Vernier pulley
Cam belt kit
Carbon door cards fitted
Sun roof removed & plate fitted
Cut off switch and cable fitted
Xsport Racing bespoke roll cage to front & rear pillars
(50 x 2 CDS for the main 6 point parts and 38 x 2.5 CDS for the additional diagonals)
Corbeau race seats, 1 Revolution and 1 Forza
Seat mounts and slider kit
TRS harness’s in red x 2
Coil over adaptation of suspension
Fibre glass bonnet (TrackM3 ”“ thanks Martin) & pins
Car live mapped (Owen Developments) & now pushing 186bhp

Image

Other work included some new brake discs, a bit of welding and that very important ingredient LSD

This is how it goes now ”“ a big difference on the original film ”“ except the driving, that’s still appalling ”“ nicking someones strap line on here ”“ ”˜drive it like you stole it’

http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=KpDp0mCiLEo

The cage has certainly stiffened it up ”“ its added some weight but will make up for itself in improved handling. They removed the dashboard & refitted it - a big factor on why I chose them ”“ most want the car totally stripped for this kind of cage. I’ll be happy on the track now with the added protection of door bars. The cage attaches to front & rear pillars, theres a strut brace up front but they have added a bar to the rear struts. It weighs 1060kg not bad I think ”“ could loose more”¦

Flywheel lightening ”“ not too extreme (Kevo’s sounds pretty hardcore ”“ mind your feet!), just shy of a kilo removed ”“ but you can tell the difference

The suspension revamp wasn’t planned but Xsport recommended it ”“ it now has the same set up as a couple of cars they look after for the PBMW series so should work well. Its low, too low now for crap backroads as the suspension bottoms out on potholey roads ”“ however, it will be even more at home on the track (I have some Eibach sport springs for sale that were only fitted for 3 weeks ”“ in for sale section)

The power increases from the manifold, exhaust & cam are very apparent ”“ it would have been nice to know what it was before but hey ho 186bhp is what it is. There is a noticeable ”˜power band’ from 3500 revs, hit that & off you go ”“ its no cruiser, you have to spank it. Sounds good too!

Just need to tidy the inside a bit with some paint, spray the bonnet & get the 15" bbs rims on I bought for a bargain £50 ”“ now painted white with the R888’s (more pics to come) then its off to the track ”“ yep its cost a few quid & I wish I could have done more myself! But now the fun bit. I really need to try not to bend it first time out, but I’m very interested to find out the cars characteristics & how it handles - no that’s a lie I just want to thrash it, go sideways & grin alot....

You'll need shades!

For these rims..... :D

Image

Blessed with (one of) the finest shade of hammerite and the clearest of lacquers....

Image

Sure, should have been powder coated or I could have at least done a good job, but £80 including the rims aint bad!

must grow myself a mullet & play some Duran Duran....looking very 80's

Well darted out of here onto a very wet yard, nice n slidey! Booked in at Elvington (near York) for a first outing this wednesday - it would be nice if it was dry or the TR1's have to go back on. A lick of paint on the bonnet then we are done.

Now where are my old LP's......

This is a sensational write-up and all a testament to what is looking to be a top notch result!

Kudos to you, man. Excellent stuff!

It's a shame about the EIbachs not working out but the Xsport guys are right...You'll be happier with the coil-overs in the long run as a race prospect.

How's the Hottuning manifold? You find it OK? (Well done on introducing it to Mr Dremel :) )

Gawd! All my engine bits are still sitting in a room or are waiting at the workshop. I hate being ill! I feel the pangs of jealousy and want my own project to pick up some good speed again.

Top read!
