Afternoon all,
I'm dying to have some more omph in my IS but I don't really want to sacrifice the handling too much.
I think it would be a good idea to 'Sticky' a thread detailing the list of parts needed to carry out the conversion. Please feel free to start the list below.
I know there's already an M50 thread but a quick easy reference thread is maybe needed.
Is there any handling benefit of having an M52 over an M50?

the m52 is a lighter engine than the m50.

I know, I did mention this above but a list of parts is needed for easy reference for myself and other Zoners doing the conversion.

What we need is a kindly sould to make up PDFs of their final specs and a parts/jobs list. I'm going to do one for my S50 swap when I'm finished.
Perhaps it's time for the tech section to get an overhaul? The more enthusiastic zoners could submit proper 'how-to' documents.
Shrugs.

There's no one correct way to do an M50/52 conversion. Many different solutions to the various problems - that's why you need to read through the long thread.
You need an engine with an E34 sump/pick up and E36 mounting arms, but that's all that's definite!

As Brian said there are that many choices of diff/props/gearboxs/radiators etc to use it would be hard to comprise a list.

If it assists, this is what I am using, right or wrong.
E34 M50 with pre-adapted loom (done by previous owner)
M20 flywheel & clutch
E30 318is gearbox
E30 325 prop & diff
Clio servo on E30 master clinder
standard M40 radiator
E30 M3 electric fan
E36 mounts
M52 butchered exhaust manifold (now getting a custom one made)
E30 325 exhaust system (until the rear mount turbo goes on - possibly)

These are perfectly acceptable for doing the job, but apart from the E30 325 exhaust, there isn't one part in this list that I used in my first conversion.E30BeemerLad wrote:If it assists, this is what I am using, right or wrong.

Many roads, all leading to the same destination!
