... has to be in a 12" sub box for a good bass sound, and is ported or not ported the way to go. I wana make a home made box from 18mm MDF you see.

Depends on the sub, how you're powering it, how you want it to sound, how important space is to you...
E30 in need of wiring loom smoke since April '11...

What's the model number of the sub??
Different subs work differently in different size boxes!!
The air in the box effectively acts like a kind of suspension on the cone - the less air in the box, the less the cone will move about, giving tigher bass - more air lets the cone move more and give you deeper bass.
Also, what do you call 'good bass'?? Big and boomy or tight and controlled, or just loud as poss??
What music do you listen to - if it's purely dance/house music, a smaller box might give you slightly punchier bass, but may not give you the depth you would want for something like R'n'B.
Also, the sub will sound different in a sealed box, to a ported box. If you're making a ported box you need to think about the port shape, size and depth!!
A sealed box can generally be abit smaller, but personally I think a well designed ported box will sound better (quality).
I'm guessing not, but if you wanted to just get a massive spl (loud as poss!!) you can design a box to work better at certain frequencies than others - but it won't necessarily sound very good for everyday listening!
Also, if space becomes an issue, it's sometimes possible to use a slightly smaller box and put in some wadding, which effectively fools the sub into thinking it's in a bigger box than it really is!!
Whatever route you take, make sure the box is solid and well sealed!!
Sorry to throw in all this confusion, but thinking it through will get you the best possible sound for your scenario!!
After saying all this - if you just want a temp fix to get some bass in the car, you could easily knock up a sealed box of somewhere up to about 1 cu ft for a 10" sub or between 1 and 1.5 cu ft for a 12" and see what you think! If it doesn't sound as good as you're expecting, at least you've got some sound while you plan a proper box/install!!
If you google the model number of the Sub (or look in the owners manual if you have one!) you should be able to find out sizes recommended by the manufacturer for a sealed box and a ported box.
In my experience with kenwoods, I have found they sound a lot nicer in a ported box!!

Size of the box isn't too critical on a sealed box and most pre fabs will work fine.
If you wanna make a ported box let me know the specs. and I work out a design for you.

im wanting to put somthing along the back of the seat panel in the boot, longer than deeper sort of design and put the amp on the side of it and a 10 dics changer is needing a home as well.chu346 wrote:Size of the box isn't too critical on a sealed box and most pre fabs will work fine.

To keep it simple - recommended sizes (from what i can find on google!!):
For a ported box you want 1.1 cu ft and a port size 76mm diameter x 127mm
For a sealed box you want 1 cu ft. (just over 28 litres)
Box shape doesn't really affect the sound too much, so you can be as creative as you want with the install - or for a quick fix you could knock up a 18mm mdf cube, sub on one panel, amp on another, changer on another (as long as your changer can work with the vibrations!!).
The box in your link would do the job (maybe a touch small, but it would work fine)!!
