What price have you paid to get a full respray?
I've been planning to get the front and rear Valances, Sideskirts, Bumpers and Mirrors done untill I can afford the rest but I'm thinking it might be easier to get her all done in one go, What do you think?

pay the grand and get it done properly...you wnt regret it...
good luck

oh...and acording to an insurance (bloke)...he tells me that a full respray and new engine are about the only things that can add to the book value of a car...he was refering to my red 1 at the time...get it all done in one go...i justs droped mine off to get my grill and new spoiler sprayed.......a whole day without my baby

There are different levels of resprays, but generally, you get what you pay for. If you're just having a body respray with no door shuts, boot shuts, engine bay etc, then generally they start from about a Ԛ£G, but if you go for the full works like i have, then you can expect to pay anything from Ԛ£3k upwards. I paid Ԛ£2k for labour for my car 1st time round(including my hardtop and wheels, and i knew the guy), plus Ԛ£1k for the paint (I got a fat discount from House of Kolor), this time round, my mate is charging Ԛ£3k for labour and i'm having to pay the full price of the paint, which is about Ԛ£2k including the thinners and lacquer, so we're in the Ԛ£5k mark  Gosh, you can get a nice convertible for that money or a nice Sport and a holiday. At the end of this year, my car will be done as a show car, cause i dont believe in taking the same car to the same shows every year, so if it was down to me, i'd take the money and get my bumper and wing sorted ( I wouldn't really be too bothered if the colour was slightly out as you'd have to look real hard to notice) then i'd keep the money and spend it on a big brake kit, a nice holiday and still have change left. Unfortunatly though it's not up to me, so i guess it's back to playing the Lotterey

Michelle, i paid Ԛ£1850 for my sport respray and all my rust work (and youve seen how much rust wrk there was) but that was mates rates too. Im agreeing that 1k will get you a full respray and they will probably tidy up some dings and rust sports for you for that price too if you smile sweetly enough!

With regards Delphin...... i intended getting her fully resprayed one day if i still had her..... so i guess im bias towards opting for the full respray and overdraft! That car will look mint when youve finished with it! It seems you are doing all the things i wanted to do to her! Im glad you are taking such good care of her! Initially i was worried she would end up being spanked the same way the H27ANE was, but im not worried anymore - you seem to show her the same love that i had for her....even if i didnt show her the money that you are.

Im happy she went to a proud caring home! :) :)

I said I would give her a good home, She's treated a bit different to H27, I only washed that car once!
I've just got a quote for new panels and I can't afford them :(
Will it be obvious when the door or boot is open that it's only been sprayed on the outside?

yea, i agree H27 was a kettle of turd.
What did u get quoted for new panels? and where from? i get 15% discount from my local stealers now coz of my sport. want me to ask some questions?
yes it will be obvious that its had a respray - you really do need to get the door returns and jams done at the same time. really really do!

That's a good discount. Can you arrange a truck? I've got a long list!
I had this quote from Quarry Motors:

Part 1, New Genuine NS Wing: 110.00 (Type: New, Warranty: 12 Months)
Part 2, New Genuine OS Wing: 110.00 (Type: New, Warranty: 12 Months)
Part 3, New Genuine Bonnet: 206.00 (Type: New, Warranty: 12 Months)
Part 4, New Genuine Boot lid: 199.00 (Type: New, Warranty: 12 Months)

Total: 625.00

Delivery: 20.00

PLEASE NOTE: All prices are EXCLUSIVE of VAT.

I'll make sure the door returns and jams are done then. Is there anything else I need to ask about? (I'll be asking for the bumpers and mirrors to be sprayed)
Now that the whole car is being painted would you still have the black bottom bit? More practical yeah?
 I might put it to the vote.

Yea, it IS a good discount, but thats only cos i started off spending silly money on my sport, and yea, i can arrange anything!

Ԛ£110+vat for a front wing is steep. I'll defo get them cheaper than that!
Will also check on bonnet and boot for you.

Door returns etc are a must IMHO.

If you are spraying the whole car, then id get the bottom bits under the doors (the sills) painted the same colour as the bodywork.(dolphin grey) The skirts are on their way as we speak michelle, so get them done too, and make sure the holes for them are drilled BEFORE its painted, that way, there will be some paint on the sides of the drill holes, minimising rust potential.

I have to DRILL HOLES in Delphin  Are there clips or bolts to attach the skirts?
When Brain engaged after posting, It would of course be logic to go all DG!
I'm sure the other parts I need would squeeze in a package with some panels :D

erm, yes, you have to drill holes in the sills for the skirts. most of the holes are for clips, but 2 of them are for where the front wing bolts to the sill. there is another hole there for the sideskirt i think. you will see when the parcel arrives anyway.

DG all the way IMO.
Write me a list and i will sort thru the list when i get back and get on to you with some prices.

generally you pay for what u get.

eg a cheap spray job will generally look poor.

i can prob get a really good same colour full respray in a manufacturers metallic done for around a grand if no other bodywork issues r needed, but thats cos ive put business the companies way b4 and have reccomended ppl to use them for work
Thats from a bl**dy good sprayer too.

BMW dealership has quoted me Ԛ£1600 (Ԛ£1800 with hardtop) incl. vat. No other bodywork issues (rust etc.) just a total flat back to metal, all dings out and a same colour respray. Replace all original paints/seals/fixings and a 3 yr warranty.
Had loads of discount included on these prices too. I suppose an official BMW dealership respray would look better in a service history folder too.
Guess what i'm saving for...!
Andy.

My first Sport was taken to the dealers for a complete strip and re-paint in Cosmos Black as opposed to the original Diamond Black. (I was young and the Cosmos Black was a lot 'blacker' if you know what I mean)

They made an awsome job of it... everything was taken out or off it. That set me back Ԛ£1200... This was a good 8 years ago though, so prices have changed somewhat. Probably closer to Ԛ£1600 now, as Andy said.

You do get what you pay for.

 I've just been to the sprayer who was my first choice, there BMW approved and only 5 minutes away. He said he'd just done one that was the same colour but it sounds like it's put him off doing them as he said that most of them are too far gone to bother with and they are usually worse than they look bla bla bla and my jacking points are rusting away 8O
He doesn't reckon I'll get any change from Ԛ£2500 or I could have the little bit's I first planned done for about Ԛ£500

Fook me!

Bring it up to Grimsby and I'll have it done for you with the guys I use; they work for the BMW main dealer during the day, but by night they are disguised crime fighters who are cleaning up the town by spraying cars and giving them back to their unsuspecting owners with gleaming fresh paint...
