Sport Gearbox, no label What oil?

As per the title, there is plenty of stuff about green labels and yellow labels, but mine has no label, and doesn't look like it ever did. What oil should I be using in the box?

If the gearchange was a bit notchy then use ATF, some of the gearbox's used this from the factory

Castrol Transmax Z is the right oil for sport-getrags (280, 262, 265).

Thanks Stonesie, The gearchange was OK, and I think I had trhe castrol SAE 80 in before, but I can't remember exactly which one, and BMW themselves don't know what the correct oil should be it's so annoying!

The next problem is that I can't find anywhere that sells the Castrol Transmax Z that you talk about Johnsku, looked on google, opieoils, ebay etc, no joy! Also wondering that if it is the right oil, why no one else (even on here) has mentioned it?

The whole thing is thoroughly frustrating, I mean why did they have different oils for the sport boxes with different labels on? Is someone at BMW just sitting there pi55ing their sides as we all run round trying to find out which oil we are supposed to use in our boxes knwoing that we can all use "oil x" with no problem? Surely there must be a best gear oil that everyone can use in their (essentially the same) sport gearboxes? I mean any of the "labeled" boxes could have had the label removed at any point in history and how would anyone know?
