How many miles are you getting on fuel???

My trip computer reads about 25mpg, but only just bought the car so haven't done a tank yet.

On a motorway run I can get between 350 / 400 miles out of my tank! Mind you I have a M10 318i! But the last time I worked it out I was getting about 34 mpg on a run, around town a full tank is gone in 250 miles though

They do seem to vary quite a bit. My current car is doing about 50 miles less to the tank than my previous 325i touring. That might be because I'm enjoying it more with the new suspension, or it might be because the last one was partially powered by oil (about half a litre every 250 miles).

This is a perennial question on here and not one of decreasing significance sadly. So lets make some objective points 1) a 325 driven reasonably sensibly will give you 25mpg+ in mixed driving if it doesn't then its not running right and needs fixing. 2) the best cars on fuel are the early high compression engines these will give 30mpg in mixed use. 3) the worst e30's for fuel consumption are the heaviest i.e the touring and convertible models, autos also use more fuel. 4) all the pointless extras like a/c boot liners, sub woofers etc make the car heavier and use more fuel. Conclusion an early engined two door manual with few extras is the best e30 for fuel consumption its also the most fun which is handy.

Sportster with M20B28 is getting between 20 and 29Mpg depending on how I drive it. Also it is still running in after the rebuild.

My 320Ci E46 M54B22 is getting 29-31Mpg normally and 35Mpg on a motorway run. So I normally get 400 miles of a tank (but it has to be completely empty). Normally fill up between 340 and 360miles. Roll on LPG I'm spending £63 p.w. on petrol with current prices

I'm not bothered what I get, I bought an e30 cos I like them and I wanna drive them. If I was worried about fuel costs, I'd have got something different. You can't have your cake and eat it as they say!

Far far far too low, you should see 20mpg+ IMO even if your driving like a plonker around town.

Let's assume you have LPG for a minute... I don't and I have 55L tank in my 320i Touring which lets me drive approximately 370 miles on motorway filling in around 49 L of petrol. At the current petrol price that means I pay roughly £56 for it.

So, it costs roughly £15.10 for 100 miles using regular petrol? IF you're on LPG that's one third of price saved, not half as many LPG disciples would lead you to believe, again - assuming we're talking about similar cars driven in similar style and conditions.

Anyone care to disprove?

To a tank the 320 got 320 miles to the light not bad at all for mainly short trips to work and back with the occasional pasteing and that 4.27 diff makeing it rev its nuts out at motorway speeds.

My 320 is doing about 18 -20mpg around town and 30+ on a motorway run. It does have a 325i TB, cone air filter, sports exhaust though.
The 323i is steady around 28 - 32mpg when driven.

Yes, you're right, it is LPG.
On petrol, my Touring does 25mpg on my commute. My local Sainsburys is currently charging £1.129/ltr for regular unleaded. That works out at 20.5p/mile.
I'm paying 49.9p/ltr for LPG. The car gives me 20mpg on LPG, which is bang on the money as LPG is only 80% as efficient as petrol. 20mpg at 49.9p/ltr works out at 11p/mile. OK, so that's £11 per 100 miles, not the tenner I quoted above - but not all my motoring is on my commute, I actually average 22mpg overall on LPG.

I've kept an accurate check on my consumption since I fitted the LPG system, and overall the cost has been 52.75% of what it would have been on petrol. That's good enough for me.

Have you fitted a 4-cylinder saloon tank in your Touring then? All Tourings came out of the factory with 62ltr tanks.

The figures you've quoted above work out at over 34mpg. I wish I could drive my car that gently. I only ever got over 34mpg on petrol out of mine once and that was driving like an 80y-o on a Sunday afternoon run-out with his parents.

316i touring averages 32mpg. 2.7 averages 35mpg. The aim is 400 miles per tankfull. It was a long walk with a can the other week when the touring ran out at 380 miles...The 2.7 is almost unbeliveably thrifty,the 325's struggled to keep up on zone roam,but I still used less fuel.Hoshy's 318is had no trouble staying with me,of course,but he did use more fuel...

I only get over 20+mpg if im driving like a granny, if im flooring it, i am literally getting 12mpg etc

Since the price of fuel ahs went up, ive learnt how to drive my car slow, feel sick to the stomach knowing the amount of money that goes to the goverment, robbing bastards!!!

Today I drove 240miles according to sat nav.
filled up with 40pounds at the beginning of trip, light was just on.
back home after 240miles mainly 80-90mph driving and the fuel is still not all used up.

that´s 40pounds at 1.15liter.

I leaned my E30 out to 1.1 lambda on cruise.
guess it worked out.

i just figured my microtech was killing fuel economy but you guys all suffer, lol. my brother's holden vy calais has a ls1 v8 in it with twice the power and heaps more weight and gets better economy then me, maybe i should put a ls1 in my car. how i can dream.

My I.S. powered touring usually returns 380 miles on a tank before the fuel light comes on, that's on A and B roads and some town work, it get's driven hard as well.

I'm now getting about 23mpg. on runabout and town driving, while on motorways this improves to around 34mpg. This is for a 320 with evolve chip and slush-box. I don't drive with fuel economy uppermost in my mind, but I don't floor the pedal just for the sake of it either.

Nope - when I fill up with the needle in red (no light though, rarely drive it that empty) I get about 48-49 liters in. It's quite possible the tank is 62 liters, I sure haven't changed it.

Well, it's a m20b20 - while revving it is fun it doesn't actually go all that fast, so I rarely floor the loud pedal. Also, I think I have a non standard diff: @70 mph according to satnav I'm sitting at 3000 rpm. I rarely go over 70 mph, either the satnav is lying or 90% of other drivers seem to be going at about the same speed. I don't fancy going to court - having a EU licence means I won't get points but it also means I'll get court summons instead of the penalty notice.

Not enough I'm only driving a 318iS engined car, and I get between 20 and 35mpg (yes, thats a large gap!), completely dependant on style, although I rarely properly thrash her, lucky if I top 4000rpm normal driving, in any gear! I tend to monitor it as: £20 gets me between 100 and 150 miles (very tops). I drive until the light comes on normally.

I used to have a 2.9 XJ40...the computer average was 16mpg....being gentle with it

my step dad got his e34 530i v8 computer down to 8mpg once that was hammering the balls of it tho

My mum got 8 MPG by literally pottering around Town in her 530i... You can probably see why it has been put into storage now .

Can I have some more figures on 316i's please? Preferably around town. Fuel consumption never really crossed my mind when I bought my car, but it will be interesting to see what she can do

I've just put another £30 in the tank got half a tank for that, last £30 i managed to squeeze out 196 miles didn't think that was to bad for a 2.5 auto. Bit of town driving and motorway to london, pissing me off watching the price of the petrol going up every week.

this is a topic after my own heart as im still confused about how much i am getting out of my tank of petrol. filled up just over 50 pounds red light not on obc saying i have 63 miles left and the oddemeter reading 315 so drive it norm then when came to fill up again oddemetr reading 328 and obs says i have 36 miles left no red light and obc says im doing 31.7 to the gal not bad i think for a 320
