Manifold Polishing

My peaked cap goes off the likes of Cliffy/Tng for their polishing efforts.

I started polishing my rocker cover yesterday (despite being inbetween owning an E30) and have the hands of 87 year old guy who's never been laid.

I started off with nitromos then a grinder and by the end of yesterday I was on the 80 grade, high as a kite and with very little skin on my knuckles.

Today I've been out and bought a dremel and various conical cones/moisturiser and nail cream to get in those hard to reach places for the bargain sum of £70.

Is 600 grade the end stage as some places I've seen mention 1200 grit.

How long do I need to work on the manifold per grade in all honesty?

Will my hands heal up by Friday ready for when the wife goes out and the 10 minute free views start?

How much is that rate for a polished rocker cover these days?

After that i'll be doing the inlet manifold & TB.
Although I've just found out my old mans firm does powder coating....hmm theres options there.

How's things? Yes mate the cars long gone.......it was rotten underneath so had to strip the poor old girl.
It's been almost a year now and I'm currently having a cabbie built.

I certainly miss the E30. Currently driving round in an E38 which is buring hooooge holes in my pockets.

yeah id get one done from Gaz too.

Think at the mo he's charging about £70 to buy one off him outright.

Wouldnt bother doing the inlet yourself though.

Youll end up with crippled knuckles, a bicep arnold swatch would be proud of and youll never be able to wank or write ever again lol

The balance of trying to save pennies and getting the job done by someone else is rapidly tilting toward the latter.
I unboxed my new dremel last night and got busy with it as soon as I got in.

After which I went out to the shed and deceided to give it a go on the manifold. What an awesome tool! The little sandpaper hula hoop attachments were great. However, even with the additional box of attachments I bought, I cannot get into the groves of the lines.



But I'm going to give it another go tonight before the *cough* England "football" match as apparently still have a team (news to me) and see how it goes.

If I manage to regain the feeling in the ends of my fingers I take a picture tonight.

Tings is good ta! Shame about your 2-door (always liked it in white, despite not really likeing white cars), but you'll love the roof-down goodness... Wouldn't waste too much time polishing bits though - only a matter of time until you decide you need a better engine in there!

Lets be seeing a pic of the E38 then - they're properly nice looking cars.

The only reason I've started polishing is because the cab is still having the new engine/diff etc put in. While I'm waiting and while Nat's watching Britains not got much talent and Baywatch, I might aswell get out in the shed and do something. Polishing the spare engine parts was the only legal thing I could think of doing in there without breaking any laws surrounding exposure.

I'll see if I've got a pic of the tank anywhere.

once u've done all the sanding etc i would consider a metal buffer like the angel grinders attachment or bench grinder attachment makes life alot easier, get some pic's up of ur progress buddy

Fella, your like the Simon Cowell of my world a the moment......the picture of your lump....your engine with the chrome inlet manifold, rocker cover and blue hoses is laminated, framed and adorning my bedside table. I might add it's even taken the place of my signed westlife photo.

If I can get mine lookig half as tidy as yours, I'll be a happy man. If not, I'll be binning my new dremel, paypal'ing Gaz 70 sheets and 'kin off down the pub for a pint of drambuie.

Think I confused myself... I have ordered the polished inlet manifold from Gaz, the rocker cover is another story - will post some pics up when all fitted!

As for above song, well as an 80's anorak I would say Simply Red from August 1985. Easy.

Are they all mirage parts? I always see them in PBMW and think they look spangfangdango but they are all so expensive.....like the fuse box lid £20 and the expansion cover £120 and the stainless ring piece £84.

Im awaiting the ready date for all the bits u wont belive how much i've spent getting that engine bay the way it is now, thats without the recent 2.7 done on the cab

As for prolongs the life of the car, ur going down the wrong route it makes the car cooler

I know that, but the wife wouldn't understand. It took me a month to explain the AC makes her car cooler but also drinks the go go juice if left on all the time.
