good effort dude !

I'm still stuffed by the lack of ECU

According to a source its awaiting VAT payment but I've yet to be informed, so at least its made the 4000 mile trip OK, just to grind to a halt in good ole Rip off Britain.

Pix ASAP of the manifold dude

Nice dude.

I think I'd fit the oil catch tank so the breather was @ the top though.

the charger looks spot on there, almost factory innit

Did you make the loom out of the car for installation later, or in the car?

Only ask cos I spent 2 days installing an Emerald in my mates car a few weeks ago and it was the devils own work!

We had to do this as the car has an alarm / immobiliser already installed and we didn't fancy un-wiring that because of course none of the wires are laballed.

Have to admit I'm not really looking forward to making another loom :(

These statements are the exact reason I ordered a loom and sensors with the ECU, not that it looks that complicated, but I can imagine it's one of the PITA jobs......but I did have to pay for it mind :D
Image
Just gotta fit the sensors and hack up the loom under the dash now.....but can't fully fit as I'm still a lambda sensor short!! Will have to wait till it's all on and running.....

I think we can all agree that Lentec is working far too quickly and needs to stop so I can catch up!

How come the exhaust studs are so long mate, and are the bottom ones sprung or something?

Cheers!

they are that long so that i can get a socket on them (i didnt leave enough room) also i tapered the end of the threded spacers to help pull the ports inline.
you think ive been working quick :? ?
i thought ive been spending too much time standing looking trying to decide what to do next!

You certainly seem to be getting a lot more done than I am! :(

I've spent about 16 hours (over a few evenings) machining the throttle tubes for mine, and they're still not done!

I sat down and made a list of all the stuff I need to do to get on the road, it's not very short

When you say "machining the throttle tubes" do you mean the induction pipes?

Yeah pretty much.

If you imagine I've got a 25mm thick plate which bolts to the head and converts a 40mm dia round hole into the shape of the port, and then over the round hole is bolted a 50mm long tube with 40mmID. The tubes house the butterflies (or will once the material to make them arrives).

The injectors are housed in the plates and the rest of the induction system is attached to the tubes.

I should really take some piccies!

Not running yet :(

Said I'd help a mate service his bloody Nova on Saturday MORNING. Unfortunately, due to the design of the whole thing being shite, it took the whole of Saturday and part of Sunday morning :x

Anyway, upshot is that all I got done this weekend was 6 butterflies.

Did manage to borrow a camera this weekend but forgot to borrow the USB lead thing so I can't post the piccies.

Not a good weekend :(

Managed to tidy up/fill/respray the front valence.......after I cut the crap outta it with the angle grinder......drowned the manifold in wd40 a few times and the rest was spent at a mate's 25th Bday party....not much else done really.....hopefully this weekend will be more productive....but I have to absail (spelling?) for charity on Sat so again not as much time free as I would like! :D

Taken some pictures at last!!

Here we have the head mounting plate next to two of the throttle tubes:

Image

And the throttle tubes in their rough positions on the plate. The injectors will mount into drillings in the plate and as such remain in their original positions pointing at the back of the inlet valves:

Image

Here's the materials to make the butterflies, spindles and actuator rod (the silver bit) together with the butterfly machining attachment.

Image

A little shot of the attachment. It kinda sorts out all of the geometry so that the butterflies shut at 8degrees.

Image

A drilled bit of butterfly to be on the attachement on the lathe:

Image

A sexy action shot:

And finally the finished article:

Image

Been turning the spindles down to 8mm this evening. Just two more to finish off tomorrow before I start slotting and drilling them to accept the butterflies :)

You're SO close!!

Did you go for a Cavalier coil pack in the end? Just wondered what leads you're using if you did?

Also, are you using the standard rad? Think I might invest in a new one just save silting my new engine up straight away.

Have been discussing the rad issue myself, seems without the front plastic cowling (the formed black plastic cover behind the grill) the running temp is slightly higher than norm, so I've given my rad a power clean but not made as much diff as I thought, looks clean, but still not able to see through it.
Was thinking then maybe the std rad is a little small for what it needs to do soon so maybe find a bigger version for peace of mind.
I have a few ideas on what to use, but will see what the scrappy has in order to see what will fit, then order a new one and give the whole cooling system a flush and a clean prior to fitting.

Have any of you guys gone for the uprated clutch yet?????

I keep changing my mind........should I??.......or not?????....

Just don't wanna burn the damn thing out while I'm enjoying myself!! :D

Well as this is an update page i thought i better post as i haven't posted for a while on the project.

Well i'm about an hour away from turning the key! Its starting to scare me so i'm going to sleep on it tonight and think of all the things i need to do before rushing ahead and missing something obvious. But this is turning the key not a finished product by a long way!

The turbo and manifold are all bolted up, with gaskets. The air flow meter has been placed infront of the turbo so i had to extend the wiring loom for that. I made a custom mount for the internal wastegate actuator, which now holds the wastegate closed but will also importantly allow it to open!

I finished the oil return a few mins ago which goes back to the sump. The oil feed has now got a B&Q special restrictor and is all connected up. The vortech FMU is all plumbed in, with its vaccum source.

The turbo to throttle body is all connected up using renault turbo diesel charge pipes. I wonder how long before they get blown off, ages hopefully!

I got 6 spark plugs, 2 heat ranges colder than standard yesterday, i think one step hotter than yours mark. NGK BPR7ES i think. thankfully factors stock them singly or otherwise i would have been buying 8. The HT leads just about go on, put need to get some heat insulation tape really. Any ideas where i can get some?

The downpipe is not finished by a long way! but i'm sure i can put up with the noise

All i've got to do....in my head anyway is put 5 litres of oil in it, put antifreeze back in and bleed it. Connect up the air flow meter to turbo intake, jubbly clip it up. Check everthing i've moved, changed, played with 5 times over and see what happens

Any checking procedures you lot wanna help me with.

Then once started check for fuel/water/oil/air leaks and hope nothing goes bang!

Wish me luck.

first start and first run was very anxious for me . :)

I ran it with little or no boost (wastegate open)and then increased
slowly ..

Well it started after i put the fuel hoses on the right way

Sounded loud as fork, bit like a sherman tank, without a downpipe. Its also leaking fuel from the vortech so that to sort. Only ran it for about 1 min and no video Mr brown i'm afraid, was scared to run it any longer than that to be honest, only reved it up to 1.300rpm it was soooo loud!

Will let you know how it goes when i 'play' with it in an attempt to tune it and get i running leaner.

Its all good fun lads get yours done!
