I was wandering if anyone could help re: exhaust problem?

I have a scorpion rear box on the cab and one of the lemans style tailpipes has become loose inside.

The small housing trumpet before the mesh starts has become loose and is rattaling.

I took it to a few exhaust places who did not want to even bother looking at it unless I was interested in buying an exhaust from them :x however one advised me that they could not weld it as it was stainless steel.

This person then reached for his hammer & hit the trumpet as he called it & it pushed this about 5-7 cm inside the pipe.

The rattling stopped however by the evening the trumpet was completely loose & know even spins right around inside. I have tried to pull the mesh forward however it aint happening.

Do you guys think this can be repaired or is it a new rear box :?. apart from that pipe the rest of it is fine.

If it is time for a new one, I think I will go for the original BMW one as this one is a bit too loud for my taste.

Anyone know who much the bmw rear box is for a 325i conv.

Any help would kindly be appreciated.

Thanks.

That was part of the baffles and will now have to b replaced as it will only brake down even more and the rattle will get worse and could even block the zorst and cause engine failure in the end

Slightly off-topic, but I think you will find that even with a lifetime warranty you have to take it to a garage of some sort and get them to stamp the card once a year saying it's OK.

I know, as I bought a Scorpion in March I think and have all the documents including warranty.

Lads no receipt as the exhaust came with car & that person bought the car with it on.

Do you know how much a new original BMW one is or can I get one from euro car parts??.

Eurocarparts are quoting Ԛ£215 for genuine rear box for spec you stated above, but they are out of stock.

Maybe worth phoning your local stealers to see what price they come in at and also GSF.

My M3 backbox from these was Ԛ£269 all in with the hangers etc. That was a few years ago, genuine item and still going fine....a few years, possible 5 now I come to think of it!!

Ask for Andy....if you are not a member for discount, become one....you never know when those few pounds count.

Thanks for all the replies. I have been advised by a mate to get a supersprint rear box as this will be less noisy than the scorpion & generally better.

I've phoned around & even just the rear boxes are so expensive. (nothing less than Ԛ£200.00)

The joys of owning a e30 :?

One of the questions I kept getting asked was if it was a 2 or 3 piece system ?

Can anyone throw any light on this

Cheers

hayward and scott in essex can rip ure box open and repair the baffles and reweld it--they are very good at welding exhausts... they will also repack with steel wool stuff...... and guarantee it

Not neccesarily, most late E30's have the 2 piece system, sports don't have different systems apart from the tail pipes exiting straight.

My old sport had a 2 piece system, most (note I said most) cat ready cars (1988 onwards) should have a 2 piece system with the centre box and downpipe on 1 piece.

Try longlife! They should be able to make it as loud or as quiet as you like and should be a lot less than 200 quid. Oh, and stainless steel so you shouldn't have to worry about having to replace it again. :)

Supersprint is a very nice noise. Much quieter than a Scorpion.

I phoned Longlife today for a twin 2 inch pipe system and they said it would be aprox' 500 quid which is to much money for me at the moment.

I should get 250 quid for my M3 Scorpion system but my spare cash is going towards other stuf so any thing that i get has got to be less than 250 may be 300 at a push.

Hi all, some good news re: the scorpion.

I took the car to my BMW specialist (I should have done this in the first place  ) he had a look & told me that the scorpion was fine & that the baffles were not damaged.

He got the bodyshop repair guy to clean & weld the trumpet in place.

The car drives so much better & no noise from the rear box.

I would still prefer something quiter however the money I was going to spend on the new box could be spent on a insp 2.

Hey you can't do it all at once. again thanks for all your help guys especially Bharat
