Ok story goes I went to look at this last night-
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=019
Had quick look and body work is spotless almost so started well removed oil filler cap to find tiny bit of what looked as though maybe mayonaise.
Thought not to sure if it is or not so went for a drive.
Got to garage and double checked oil filler cap to find mayoniase ( is it me or does this not mean the head gasket has gone and I should walk away? )
Also the car had an unwillingness to rev over 4500rpm. ( Are these easy things to rectify as I liked the car but don't have lots of money to thow at it?! )
Cheers Lewwy
The cause of this?!

Walk away! The camshaft is knackered. An age old M40 problem where worn camshaft lobes are no longer able to sufficiently open the valves wide enough.lewwy wrote:Also the car had an unwillingness to rev over 4500rpm.

I have an L plate white 316i Touring here that has only done 96k.
It is mechanicly perfect but does need a little tidying around the edges.
On the plus side it has 11.5 months m.o.t!
I havn't advertised it yet but if its the sort of thing you want its yours for £600

As stated the main problem is most likely a worn cam.If the body is sound it may be worth making an offer as the oily bits can be fixed/swapped.lewwy wrote:Ok story goes I went to look at this last night-

I'd imagine around £300 if you do it yourself.. £200 for a 325i lump with gearbox and prop, £100 to service it, a weekend to drop it in.
(but more if you aren't a hero)
