I've read Total BMW, BMWcar, and PBMW. PBMW has to be the best. But I'm sure no magazine would contest an E30 zone mag.

performance bmw is fuckin crap. full of mutant cars.
total is where its at. this months issue is very good. i really have learnt from reading total bmw.
drdaniel, you should properly read total bmw. it has many articals for the e30. check out the 320i to 325i throtle body conversion. i cant see any other bm magazine doing that. pbmw really is shit.

Total BMW is my preference, more informative and seems to cover the E30 and other older car better. PBMW is still ok and i do buy it quite often,
also the BMW car club mags are pretty good.

would be a cool idea-
give us a chance for indepth features on zone cars,
a chance to publish "cut out and keep" articles on servicing and electrical problems,
a place to provide writeups on the meets that are happening,
a source of income for the 'zone (from advertising) that could be used to set up say a 'zone garage' so we could do group fitting on group buys...

Usually get all three, have done since 2001 and my collection is getting big.
Total is the better magazine, I think. Car is just new stealer magazine. Performance is really a porn mag now!

I agree that PBMW often has some badly mutilated cars as well as some awesome ones (this months 1033bhp e34 is quite impressive as well as the 875bhp e30!!!!).
I am personally a fan of any old school BMW however... so an old skool BM mag would be a definate buy for me - bit like practical classics for the BMW nut, featuring more e12 5's, e28 5's, 6's as well as the awesome e21 and e30, maybe even older cars such as the e10's and the 00's, and no badly modded and in my mind the less characterfilled e36-46 3's that seem to be the rage in PBMW.

I guess that Total BMW is from the same people as Total Vauxhall and therefore would be characterised by a lack of technical data and articles that say things like "OK mate, then he wacked a filter and zorst on it to release the horses". Basically a general fear of scaring any readers with proper information.

I used to buy both TBMW & PBMW but since I've bin on the zone I aint bought either ! Doesnt seem to be the need any more. Of the two though I'd have to say TBMW is the best ( my car was a featured model in Nov 03, the owner was open to offers and I stepped in)so I have to big up that mag dont I ?

I used to read BMW Car, but it was too 'boring' really.
Moved on to PBMW and TBMW. It's interesting to read Performance BMW just to see the bling-bling bad taste stuff that goes on out there.
Total BMW is the best IMO. Full of technical hints and tips, along with the best coverage of DECENT E30's...
But...
This month, just going back to Jon's favourable comment on the good article about the throttle body upgrade written by Mr. Everett (You can see his fat fingers in the photos...) the magazine competely contradicts itself... BIG TIME! One minute you're reading the throttle body article, the next, in the Q&A section, 'Certain Convert' - the reply reads: "I've yet to be shown (and convinced) that a bigger throttle body on a 325i provides one single extra bhp"
Hmmm.....
