It has been a very busy week!

First i had to flat the sunroof, i decided to go down the fake sunroof route......

Image

Next i had to paint it!

Image

Image

As you may be able to see the paint didn't go on very well, i was spraying too thin and it was drying to fast! so once it dryed i sanded it back again and started again! Eventually after some flatting it turned out good!

Once she was all painted it was lots of little things to finish and time to get her ready for the easter monday hill climb!

Image

This is the finished car with my co-driver getting ready for his first hill climb!

Man that car is looking the nuts - good work  My sunroof is buggered so I'm going to see if I can tidy it up after the hill climb.

I'm doing the hill climnb here on the Isle of Man in 4 days time, 17th, 18th and 19th. I'll post the pics and info on the forum of course! Can't wait, there are 80 cars doing it here so should be really good

Keep the pics coming of the progress

Here's my hill climb 325

Triss30rally - Just met a guy on the BARS test from Jersey and he's got a 325 - Rob Harrison's his name, just moved here in Feb.

The BBTB - Where did you get it from? and what was the £Â£Ã‚£Ã‚£Ã‚£Ã‚£Ã‚£Ã‚£???

looking good tris. how much did they set you back in the end? and do you mean camber? your ecentric lolipop bushes gave you extra castor. as for how much camber ive heard 4 degree's on track works well with r888's probably want a bit less for rallying though something like 2.5-3 just have a play around and see whats best. you have to stop buying these nice parts you making me wish i didnt change my mind about building my one.

As i have so many things to do before may the 9th (next hill climb) i have mounted the coilovers with the standard top mounts for now so i don't have to worry about setting the adjustable ones up!

The car is now solid! it is gonna be so light on the back end

Spring weights are 500 on the front and 250 on the rear.

The next job was my cam, i knew it was tired because the engine was really tappety, but i didn't know it was completely screwed!

I had a new cat cam to fit so it was ok!

I took the head apart to find the rockers had completely worn out and have worn down about 1mm off standard

Also the cam was worn down so much in places that it had actually started breaking up on one of the lobes  thank god i decided to do the cam now otherwise the next event would have seen the end of my head :(

This is everything after the mission that was getting it all out, it took hours! i had to move the engine as far forward as i could so i could get to the back to lever the rockershafts! they were stuck from 18 years of burned on oil!

Image

After that i inspected the rockers and cam to find this!

Image

Image

As you can see the wear is pretty extreme, a few where even worse but my hands were too oily to touch my camera :D

The camshaft was just as bad but i knew i had to replace this,

Image

No wonder the car would not idle properly and was only responsive at full revs!

In this one you can see that one bit has even broken off! luckily i had a route around the head and found the bit that had come off!

Image

After being a bit upset i ordered a full set of new rockers and shafts and got on with fitting my new cam!

This is a cat cam 272 272 (i think thats what it was! :) )

Image

And new rockers with the old excentrics all oiled up and ready to go!

Image

Image

After about an hour i got the first side in, it was a lot of fiddeling but i got there eventually!

Tonight i have to fit the intake side and then adjust the tappets.

Do you have to run new cams in? how many miles do you think i should drive before i use it in the next competition?

After how long would you check the clearences on the tappets?

I finished it last night, all fitted and timed up!

And my freshly painted rocker cover courtesy of my navigator, Bright orange like the rest of the car will be next year! :D

I did a hill climb on friday, all the little mods improved my time from 56.01 to 52.97

I was well chuffed by the end of the day

For a comparison the really sorted escorts with things like sequential boxes etc were getting 47- 48 seconds up the hill so i have a bit to go but i think my time is impressive for an old six pot!

What can i do next to get my times to 51's???? :D

I was locking up a lot, would you reccomend that i connect up the ABS again??

My Hottuning manifold went a lurverly shade of blue whan i raced!

When set the dampers to soft i thought it was actually smoother than my 60mm lowering springs but when i set my dampeners to race it was break your back rigid!

Balance was fine, i cannot notice there is a heavy straight 6 under my bonnet!

I have not updated in a while so i thought i would tell you what has been going on!

I have been completing loads of little jobs!

First job was get rid of the ABS, it didn't work anyway and the combination of the pump and wiring loom must weigh atleast 5 kg!

After i pulled that out and attempted to re-plumb the pipes i realised flairing steel pipes in a tight space was far too much effort and for £80 i could have most of the parts needed to re-plumb the whole system in braided lines. So i ran the braided lines through the car which is better for rallying anyway, and it looks good!

I also got rid of the brake bias valve that BMW fit, do you think i should replace this or keep it without? The braking certainly improved after getting rid of it!

Next job was re-paint the cage in white because it looks better! :D

Then i have replaced the seat with an OMP rs fibreglass jobbie with the e30 fitment subframe which is good but fits a little high!

I also fit some bonnet pins and a fancy blue scoop for my intake and de spoilered her as i don't like the tech 2 spoiler :D

This is how she stands now,

Image

This weeks jobs are to fix the dent on the front then fit my BMW vinyls which are gonna look gooooooooood!

Fit a Tilton or a Wilwood adjsutable BPV next to your seat. Keep clicking it to harder one click at a time until the rears just start to lock on heavy braking then back it off one.

I'm going to take some photos of my car this week and I'll get a photo of mine.

Cars looking good fella. What's it weighing in at now?

We got it on last night, what a mission! But after a bit of messing with the heat gun a a lot of swearing it is on with no bubbles! 8O

My co-driver is also trying a little something at the back, we are going to stretch that accross the whole car......
