only thing have done is changed roof lining, and allso opened the boot and closed again, car idles ok but at 1-2k in any gear at full throttle it sounds like its running out of juice, allso pops and spits after 5k again like its running out of juice, seems ok between 3 and 5k car in question is an e34 m50 525i sport and has been fine before roof lining change, car has done 160,000 and never missed a beat. can anyone please give me advice on what to do? things i have tried is:

reset dme by disconecting batt for 30mins
checked all plugs
checked oil

what should i do next?

Is this a vanos engine?

The thing with faults like this is its very hard to nail down the problem without swapping bits, M50 diagnostics is very basic and not very helpful, the ECU on mine (M50 non vanos) didnt even show a fault code with the cam sensor unplugged
