I have an '89 325is, I don't have the 17's as yet but my springs are Apex 60mm drop, with Bilstein Sport shocks. The stance is sweet as well as the ride but my front spoiler/dam scrapes if I'm not careful.
My Brother-in-Law has a '91 318i with 205/40/17 rubber on 17x7 inch rims, he's happy with the H&R 40mm springs and Boge Turbo-Gas Shocks.
My Cousin has a '91 318is with 215/40/17 rubber on 17x7 inch rims, he loves his Apex 60mm springs and Bilstein Sport shocks. He had Boge Turbo-Gas shocks before but busted them up within a few months on these Canadian highways.

You can also go with coil-overs, but they're not cheap, especially Bilstein or Koni's. I've read a lot on Spax, but they are more popular in the UK and Europe than here in North America. Also my supply guys have told me that there are Bilsteins from Germany (thumbs up!) and also those made in Mexico. Take your pick.
I picked up my Apex (60mm drop) springs for half the price as Eibach. I heard a rumour that Eibach and H&R have merged, someone else may be able to shed some light on that.

H&R, Eibach are excellent.
Dont forget tried and tested brands like AVO. Excellent springs at an excellent price.

hi just thought id add somthing, i have a 325is 89, just installed apex (40mm) and uprated shocks to bilstein, keep in mind that my model of 325 is an (m-tech) so in theory i was only getting a 20mm drop from these springs!!! they in my opinion are dog shit, dont know if its because i had a bad batch or they sent me the wrong springs.... i dont know, car was like a boat, lifted when accelerating, i dont mean slightly neither i mean doing a wheelie on a bike lifting...., back end was everywhere.... also banged everytime when cornering, ripping the lot off now even the bilsteins and gone with the spax adjustables which i am due to fit next week 60mm drop (spax) springs but i will only get a 40mm drop because mine is already 20mm lower than standard 325's as you all know im sure.... cant wait!! she'l handle like a train and i know it!!! i would deffo recommend getting a "matched" shox and spring set because atleast you know its all gonna be right for your beema, people may disagree but im am only going off experience, eibach, h&r, are the daddy but you dont wanna be borrowing daddys money to buy them, LOL hope this all helps you just dont want you to get stung like i did
