I tried fitting a new Blaupunkt headunit to my E30 M3 using the ISO-BMW plug harness. The unit switches on but I get no sound at all. When I turn the ignition off you hear an electrical sound like someone unplugging an amplifier, if you know what I mean.
Is there something special about the pin assignments for the M3? The plug on the car side fits the ISO-BMW which is stated as being for all BMW from 1991 to 1998, presumably thats all E36's.

Did you have a headunit working in there before?
Have you checked the manual for the troubleshooting section?
Are you sure there isn't a mute button on the headunit some where?
You should have two plugs on the cable, one for power, ignition etc which will be red, yellow, blue, black, orange
+ maybe more. The other plug is for the speaker outputs green, white, brown, and grey. Each of these will have a negative which will be green+black, white+black etc. Try wiring a speaker directly to these wires, be careful and don't short them out.
I don't have any experiance on M3's but can't see why they would be different, most cars are laid out the same since the 80's.
