no it isnt, and why would you want to? £500+ for a box as opposed to £100

The M3 box is a Getrag 265, which is rated to 265NM of Torque, where as the M20 Box is rated at 260NM of Torque.
But in reality I can't see there being much difference.

I have a high mileage 325i gearbox on mine. I changed the oil and forgot to add the transmission vinration damper when putting it together. Rattles a bit at idle but still as sweet as a nut, even with the bashing I give it!
I always (through habit) double de-clutch and heel and toe and use the driveline to deccelerate more than the brakes too and it's fine with that n all. I guess the double declucthing will give the synchro's a slightly easier mind.

Yes, I know they can take much more.
But, if I'm mistaken, didn't Getrag give the boxes these ratings?

A m3 box into a m20 no probs
The us spec 528ie manual came with the 265 box and a detable bell housing, ask some one on m3tech or another us forum to source a bell housing, then you just need the box.
I sold my set up about 5 years ago to racer in the kumho at the time.
But is you want a box upgrade use one from an m50 cheaper

The trouble I can see with using the E36 boxes is that the canter of the engine is different so you'd need custom linkage and gearbox support wouldn't you?

^ easily done Jai, works fine the other way around.
linkage will tweak in a vice, and the cradle is an easy fix with a mig and some 40x40
Dont see the point though,Stock box easily hacks 400HP in good nick, and as Midnight owns my old SE now, that box is 100% pukka
Good info on the Bellhousing Jason

hi
A custom gearbox support is an easy mod compared to tracking down a 528e belhousing, or mega expensive denrith
Or use a 525tds box, or some early m20 e34 520' came with a later gearbox but i can rember the spec of the of of my head.
