Ive decided to pull out the 318i Cab now the weathers getting better so i leave it outside in my parking bay...

for the last few weeks ive noticed faint scraches appearing in wierd places on the boot, bonnet and the rear window - which was near enough spotless.... :x

the other day when i came out in the morning there was a fine mist of condensation over the car and i got a clue and spotted the culprit..paw prints over my car..

i know of around 3 cats in my area and i want to prevent any more scraches and marks...apart from booting the cats one by one over the fence next time i see em, anybody know what i can do here??

anything i can spray around my parking bays to prevent the cats going near it or any other suggestions???

Cheers

Unlucky! Cats like the warmth of a car and the way it absorbs heat from sun.

Cats don't like citrus fruit and cat owners put bits of lemon down in the house if they have a persistent indoor p*ssing cat. Put some of that around maybe. You could try booting one over the fence but that ALWAYS makes them do exactly what you don't want even more. They aren't like dogs and assume a causal relationship for being booted. You can't tell them what to do unless you own them and they are old. Cat's can be infuriating.

Perhaps there is something that you can spray but anything you already have may work - bathroom spray with bleach in they don't like either but lemons will probably work best - they last - they are cheap and harmless to other animals/kids too.

Will polish sort it?

You can buy stuff that keeps cats away, like you can get stuff that keeps other animals away, although I don't know if any of this works. Apparently tiger sh*t will keep them away too, but short of robbing the local zoo I don't know where you might find any of this?!!!!

I do know that cats hate plastic bags (random)! I hate cats - if there's one nearby, flap a plastic bag around and they'll leg it! Maybe you could tie a couple of bags nearby so if there's any wind they make a noise.

Best solution sounds like the lemon idea above. Although I'd get a dog and train it to eat cats...

Sorry, in a funny mood this morning! :D

There's always an exception.... Let the cat get inside one, that'll keep him quiet!
Wire the car to the mains
 Now there's a good solution!

Just get a guard dog for the car - piss on the wheels is better than scratches!

I also had a cat problem with my cab, they would sleep on the roof and even use it to sharpen their claws, i was not too bothered as i had a new roof on order but i needed to stop the cats getting used to it before i got my new roof, i was told by a neighbor to hang plastic bottles of water from my garage roof so they hung about 10inches or so aobove my roof, it actually worked for quite a while!!

but the best was one morning, one cat was catchin a few Z's on my comfy roof, there was an existing tear that i had bodged up but it was not a good repair, that cat had obviously rolled over to strech its little legs about the same time my bodged repair gave way, i found the cat inside the car that afternoon, very hot and very pissed off - best thing is if it only knew there was a bottle of water hanging above it!!

the tear..
Image

i now use a spray cat repellant sprayed on a piece of cardboard that i put on my roof, at least if they do get on my new one they dont claw at the fabric

Soak it with the hose like i did with the one that i had probles with, or poor tins of Jeys fluid over the sorrunding area then they definatly wont come neer your car, i used it neat all over my neighbours wall and along the garage roof etc worked a treat.

I too have discovered claw marks on my bonnet .. looks like the little f*cker was sliding off (thanks Zaino) so decided the claws had to come out to steady himself.
Problem is it's always while I'm at work so I never catch the culprit.

Maybe I should use a crap polish so the claws don't need to be used !!

If this isn't a joke, perhaps you could spare a thought for your neighbours. That cat could have been a much loved family pet, a source of company for an elderly person, or a friend to a child. They are now left grieving and wondering what happened to it. It is also an act of cruelty to the animal itself, because you have deprived it of it's source of food and shelter, and all because of a few paw prints on your bonnet. You must have apoplexy when a bird craps on it!

I suggest you may find it less stressful to garage your car at night.

Non harming cat deterrents vary in effectiveness, it all depends on the cat. Our 16yr old tabby ignores lion poo, citrus, and anything else smelly.
What I find to be successful is a water pistol or washing up bottle with water in it, to which you could add a small amount of lemon juice.

Those proposing more extreme measures would do well to remember that cruelty to animals is illegal in this country and rightly so. A cat is recognised in law as a "free agent" so is allowed to go anywhere.

Why, because he's not full of spite?

We don't all hate cats.

Zone career? What does that even mean?

If indeed it is a career, and it is that important, what is to be done about your poor welcome to a new member? (even though it is probably Mr Ratch in disguise isn't it? guessing by the style of wording)

I am a big fan of animals and have three dogs myself, I've a covertible E30 now, and the neighbours cat keeps walking straight over it and laying ontop of it everyday. I tried everything to get rid of it, from squirting it repeatidly with the hose, to letting my three dogs chase it all the way down the street and then calling them back, (they never keep up with a cat). I'm fully against cruelty to animals but why should I have to fork out hundreds and hundreds of pounds to get a new roof and have it fitted because cat owners don't give a damn where there cat is. If I let my three dogs go where ever they wanted on our street and crap in everyones garden I'd get never ending complaints and probably the police round, but when this cat tears my roof, as one day it will, I'm expected to grin and bear it? I don't think so, so as I'd never hurt an animal, especially a pet, I can certainly see why a lot of people want to with cats. To get round this I caught the cat one day, took it back to the owners and explained what their cat was doing to my car, and showed them the paw marks all over it, (as my car had a new roof fitted only acouple of years ago), and I told them that they would get the bill if their cat damaged my roof in any way. They were a bit reluctant at first, but they soon agreed, as although I wouldn't hurt it, you don't have to blurt it out when your telling them that their cat is likely to cause an expensive repair to your car. It's very worthwhile to do this if it's not your cat thats always on your car.
