Hi,

I have just bought an 87 325 cab and I'm in the process of putting a new head unit in it. I have the correct lead to go from the accessory socket to the HU, but I can't find any where to plug it in!

I have take the top and side off the glovebox and have lots of wiring loom, but no sockets. The only connector with any gaps in that I can feel has no pins sticking out of it.

Does every e30 have this socket?

cheers
Tim

Toby,

Brilliant, thanks for that! I did search but obviously not well enough. That the socket I could feel, but can't reach, I've had to take the glove box off and then the panel it attachs to that has some relays on.

My car has an OEM plug in that socket already but the wires have all been chopped out, I've got the new one in but the 12v power feed isn't live, only the switched one, any idea which fuse it is?

Thanks for your help so far.

ok, so it's in and working! The lead I bought to plug into the accessory socket had the wires labelled wrongly, which in hindisght I shoudl have checked first. The lights and the 12v feed were switched...

Now I have the inspection light on all the time! I must have unplugged somethign while I was under there. Any ideas? I may have to start another post......

Coincidence I imagine. Did you unplug something else?

I accidentally unplugged another wire from the accessory socket and don't know where it came from. It was bound up with the OEM stereo wires so I decided it was part of the orignal wiring for an amp or something.

My service lights where on when I picked the car up and I have reset them once, so I think my SI board is knackered asit was serviced last month. I will reset it and see if it goes off.

toby you SI batteries are flat, replace them and follow below (except your diagnostic plug is balck and the pin identification numbers are next to each pin)

tim open the bonnet, find the diagnostic plug (on the drivers side near the front of the engine normally with a red cap on it and a bout 1.5 inches in diameter). identify pins 7 and 11 (the pin numbers are on the undeneath of the cap . Note the pin numbers sit above the pin WHEN THE CAP IS ON THE PLUG) using a short piece of wire short out pin 7 and 11, then turn on the ignition and wait about 8 seconds, the service lights will reset to all green. off ign and back on for 8 secs and the oil inspection light will also turn off i(t that is on). if this does not work you have the wrong pins or see tobys advice above.

note the service lights have nothing to do with the service requirements really, they come on with time and are only turned off by resetting using the tool or as i explained

I have a reset tool and reset the light and the green bars last week, I have reset it again. I'll see how long it lasts this time....

The good news is that I've now got my Alpine ipod head unit all working, so I don't have to hum to myself anymore!

Just the bodged central locking to sort now.
