Putting an //M badge on a non M car is stupid in my view, those that don't know that it is not an M car won't even know what the badge is and won't look twice, and those that do know what an M car is will just think "c**k!".
BillyWiz wrote:No E30 came factory standard with an "M" badge, it was a fashion fad in the 80's to add half of the M3 badge to make the car look a little more exotic. It does not represent M-Tec, a true M-Tec badge has the word "M-Technic" with horizontal lines through the background. The truth is the "M" badge does not belong on your car however if you like it put it on, it wont be original to the car but who cares lol. Hope that helps
Errr... M535i E12 and E28 both not propper M power cars but both came with M badges from the factory.

Later BMW's like E46, E90, E60 etc tec M sports had M logos on the steering wheels, sill trims, gear knobs etc form the factory.

Some people may have cut an M3 badge in half and used it for whatever aplication but an individual M badge was availible. Many E30 325i sports had M badges fitted from new (including mine) by the dealer which in my oppinion is justifiable due to all the M technic parts fitted to the model, in the same vain that newer BMW's are. Remeber M also stands for M technic as well as Motosport.

Hi, i did say no E30 came with a factory "M" badge. These badges were never cut in half either, they are simply half of the M3 badge, the "M" is one badge the "3" another. According to Sytners the "M" is not a factory fitted item but is added at a later date, if you try to locate this part specifically for your 325i sport at Sytners you will find no such badge exists. I think this topic is surely just a matter of personal taste? If you're looking for a factory original car, according to Sytners your E30 should not have this badge unless its part of the M3 badge.
Hope this helps

Items 1 & 2 are seperate badges, NOT one half of an M3 badge s it DOES exist. I have bought one recently.

My sport had a rear one from new.

Both the E12 and E28 M535iS were developed by the M division even if they were basically parts bin specials and left the factory with a FACTORY applied M badge. No E3O, not even the deserving IS lleft the factory with a M badge except the M3 . Dealers quickly cottoned onto the marketing kudos of the M moniker and started applying them to assorted turds knowing it would enable them to prise more shekels off easily impressed victims.
Alas BMW have now joined in and one can often find M paraphenalia plastered all over all sorts of ordinary chariots . M now equates to moolah, you give us at BMW lots of dollars and we will stick lots of M tat everywhere :(

Your right, its also true to say if your car left the dealership without the "M" badge its had at least 17 years to acquire one, in my opinion its the cheapest, easiest and nastiest of all the little upgrades, but then again personal opinion really shouldn't come into this thread. If you like them stick em on, after all who cares, but remember guys, none of your cars deserve them but unless you have an M3 lol

I would consider an E30 325i sport to be worthy of an M badge in the same vain an E28 M535i is ie an Mtech parts bin special.
I can understand the poor credibility of slapping load of M badges on a 318, 520 etc but not a sport.

I can also think of cheaper, nastier things to stick on an E30....

......17" alpina reps anyone?

its strange that when i ordered a new one for the front of my car that bmw wanted my v5 or registration number to prove i had a sport.

When the badge arrived it had e30 stamped into the back of it..... tell me what other car would that badge be for...dont be daft guys. anyway who dug this fossil of a post back up?

Its an E30 part mate, its half of the E30 M3 badge. Most dealers now use registration as a matter of course to locate parts, thats nothing unusual. Read back a lil and all is explained;)

most pointless argument ever. if you have a sport you entitled to it..if you dont and you have one fited your gay, quite simple really.

Does anyone care to explain to me where the 3 goes on the end of the ///M grill badge on the front...becuase i can assure you that there is no space for it and that badge has e30 stamped on the back of it.

case closed that front badge is made for the sport..if not what other E30 is it for?

Five pages discussing whether a car has the right to carry a little badge on it's arse?? If people want to do it then fine. If others want to mock and deride them, also fine. Surely there're much more important things to worry about?
