Loving those pictures of the Pug in the snow!

Some seriously nice weapons on this thread, makes me want to get myself a track slag, but I can't afford/justify having one at the moment :(
Not in E30s any more :(

ive allways had a soft spot for pug 205's and 106's aswell. if i ever build another rally car it will be a either a 205 gti with a 106gti motor in it. or a 106 rallye with a 106 gti motor in it. people put them down alot cause there french and the build quality isn't the best, but they are the finest handling small hatch backs possibly ever made.

Any of you guys running the MI16 in your 205's - BEWARE OF OIL SURGE!!
You probably know this already, but this motor suffers really badly from surge, particularly on track - runs the ends in milliseconds and usually knackers the rods too.
My son is very big on his Pugs and has run the same car as a 1.9GTI, 1.9MI16 and 2.0GTI-6.
I'll see if I can find any photos.

Also now (re)building a track only 325 bought just over a year ago which has turned into somewhat more of a project than we thought. Engine blew at Snet after only a couple of laps and subsequent stripdown prior to rebuild has thrown up some real horrors in shell and running gear. Getting on top of it now and hope to be running before the end of the season. Again, I'll try to find some pictures and post them up.

Brief spec as follows:
Actually its much the same as Shorty 73's (it was its sister car) except motor beathes though triple 45 DCOE's and has engine work by Griffin Motorsport - 203 brake at the wheels (possibly with 'sick' engine).
Lightweight shell 920kg 'wet' from memory but yet to be confirmed.

pics to follow.

Why would you put a 120bhp engine into a car which had 130bhp as standard

Mi16 engines are generally the recognised mod, I have left mine as a standard 8 valver. I have owned and tracked it for 5 years and haven't had the top off it yet.

Too many (meant in the nicest possible way :D ) hence the reputation for missed deadlines and drivers not making the grid because the race car is still back in his workshop. Top chap tho, well deserved reputation for his work on BMs.

for it to be in the 1600 class, just works out cheaper to use that engine than to buy a 1600 205 engine and have to rebuild it.

I am well aware of the mi16 oil surge issues that they suffer from. :( Its mainly due to some plank putting the engines in at the wrong angle as it is easy to clear the exhaust manifold then. Our breaker 205 has suffered this problem and killed a ring and worn the big ends. Muppets.

Our 'proper' 205 has it mounted at the right angle, but i still need to investigate a baffle for the sump I think. For the time being the oil pressure gauge will give me an indication of problems....1/4 second before the engine dies!

They do still suffer from surge when mounted at the right angle, but you are right in that when tilted to allow clearance for the standard exhaust, the situation is worse!! There is also a pressure tank thingy available which gives a limited supply of oil at pressure to the system (hopefully for long enough until the pump 'picks up' again.
So that's where the other car went! What are you going to be running it in? Might want to have a look at how your running the webbers as thats what I'd like to do with mine.
Shorty
When the car is complete, we may come out to play with you in TTRS, or maybe do SE Tintops or possibly CTCRC Modified Saloons (they've changed the rules on number of carb chokes, so were not eligeable for pre-93 anymore). Either way, weve got a lot of work to do yet, but at least we can see an end to it (or at least an end to the beginning of it, if you see what I mean).
Engines still stripped at the moment, but if you want to come over and have a look at anything, let me know (we're based in West Sussex, 10 mins off the end of the M23, so not so very far from you, I think?)

^^ Tourers rock

A few of mine - bought the Touring for £250 as a knackered 2.5 auto.
Got her stripped completely apart from the dash and 2x old school bucket seats mounted to the original E30 seat sub frames.
Replaced the engine with Oz's old tec1 sport lump and mated it to a 2ltr gear box, 3:64 Lsd, polly bushes etc etc (started to boar you then lol)

â€ËaStill road legal as well'

Now a running as a 2.5 manual - currently, it's sole use is for the track as I've got another Touring to run around in and itâ€Ëas total cost to date is £1050ish - cheap as chips fun if you ask me.

Couple of pics for you from Brands a while back;

Image
Image
Image

Note to self = â€Ëaslow down for Paddock!'

Image

And this is how she looks to date - the Alpina front had to come of in place of the tec1 due to a â€ËaCoke' can in the road, darn well broke it in 3 places!!

Alpina rims fitted and 2x matching bucket seats.

Thanks for looking + reading, Neil.

Having trouble with this picture tool (or is this tool having probs with pictures).
Hopefully here are a few pics, as promised:

Nice and clean

Underbonnet view with the latest motor.

Image
The E30 as bought.

[/img]Image
Same car on trailer, ready for the ill fated Snetterton test.

Image
Underbonnet view, with ali airbox fitted over ram pipes.[/img]

The car is now in a gazillion pieces, undergoing a full overhaul prior to being raced. The front end back to the windscreen pillars is now finished, with plenty of new metal now replacing the previous rust. We did know that there was some rust when we bought it but it was frightening how much there turned out to be. One good whack and the entire front end WOULD have come off. The rest of the bodywork is reasonably good, just a few battle scars to fix before the respray (in steel grey).
The existing cage is being modded to include bars to tie ito the strut towers, a dash bar, 'proper' door bars and an additional diagonal bar in the rear, with harness bars.
Suspension is staying'as is' for the moment, just checking / rebushing if required.
The steering rack was found to be cracked last week, and the spare casting which came with the car is different, so we've decided to bite the bullet and fit a Z3 power rack, with an electric pump fitted in the boot.
The engine is now starting to come together, the new block is at the machine shop being bored to suit the special Mahle pistons. One of these is damaged but as we cant afford a replacement set, were hopefully having it repaired as a temporary measure.
The head we know has a very small crack into the camshaft area, so this will be pressure tested, repaired and skimmed along with 3 angle valve seats and a general clean up.
The cam is a currently unknown Hartge item which will either be retained or possibly replaced with a 300+ Catcam depending on what No.1 Son decides.
Exhaust is Hartge 6 branch.
Ignition will be converted from dizzy/coil setup to Ignition management using coil packs.
Hoping to see around 250 - 270 bhp at the crank when its all done.

Anyway, I seem to have gone on a bit, thanks for sticking with it and hopefully I havent bored you all to sleep!

Looking like you've had some work there Kim. I've had a fair bit too but mainly down to my fiddling/learning the car. Have you any idea of the spring rates on that car? Tried to see what they are on mine but the etching has been worn.

Come and "play" in the Toyo series. Nice crowd, good full grids and relatively cheap entries. I'm glad I went that way as the other series' seem to be favouring more modern stuff. You'd have some 327's and an M3 to play with as well as an e36 and lot's of other marques.

Better be careful with that blatant TTRS promotion........My car may turn Green winkeye

Not an E30, but this was our last foray into racing, back in '03.

In case of confusion, Dan is driving the Vento and it's the VW Racing Cup. Came 5th in the championship, but we ran out of money at the end of the year so couldn't continue.

This is my favourite shot. Dan is leading the eventual champion, Rob Carvell, at Croft.

P.S. Shorty - Dont want to hijack the thread any more than I already have so I'll pm you tonight.

Not really, guy who owned the Manta prior to me was there. I think i went there for 3 posts, and didn't bother after that, they were more interested in the novas and cavaliers.

Usually on OMOC since they're far better for Mantas :D
