A mate of mine did exactly the same with a MK1 Golf GTi, I'll ask him if i see him tonight and let you know unless someone beats me to it.

									Not in E30s any more
where abouts are you from? dont plan on taking it without consent. am going to try and get in contact with the owner to see if it is there for a reason or if it is unwanted. just spoken to a mate in the police force and he is gonna try and get a VIC on it.

VIC??? Dumb question but what is it? lol

Wanted: Any old component speakers, complete or separate parts, let me know what you got
as far as i know, if the car is left and is causing a hazard for obstuction you can lift it after 28 days...my mate with the workshop at the back of mine lifts broken down cars all the time and sells them on etc.. just applies for new v5... he is a bit dodgy though lol..

ah cool cheers mate, thats what i shall do i think, still waiting for the owner of the car park it's in to get back to me, cops say when he says i can take it i can, apparently it becomes his property. I might carry on trying to find the owner tho just to be curteous! cheers guys

Not that ive ever done it, and by me telling you doesnt make it legal... get 2 of you to pull the wheel as hard as possible, if this doesnt break it then use more bodies or a scaffhold tube to lever it
  Be careful..........

Don't break into it until you've got it home. Rent a van and a trailer, cut the handbrake cables, winch it on and away you go. Get it stripped and weighed but make sure the scrapyard will take it witghout a V5 as not all of them do.
As for keeping it - well, possession is 9/10ths of the law but what's to stop the owner taking it back off you once you've got it going?

Apply to dvla for ownership , If the owner does not dispute new ownership with 14 days you will recieve a new logbook in your name

Its stupid that they send a letter to the owner and if they are abroad on holiday they cant dispute ownership , Good luck

Giggety Giggety Goo!!!
Correct , I remember a story a while back of a guy who did this as he found a escort cosworth parked up on private property by flats with no tax , The guy applied for ownership and recieved a logbook , Apparently the guy was off in iraq fighting , Think fuzzy or someone whos on passionford will correct me .Andyboy wrote:...........and if they do dispute ownership, you need to explain to the courts why you were applying for the V5 for a car you don't own.

I wouldn't worry too much. A bloke once left a 405 outside a friends house for a week and found us trynig to fill it full of bathroom. Couldn't say much since he'd had the gaul to dump it...

Steve E30 is right, i got hold of a jag XJS about 4 years back when me and a mate claimed for the jag which when the logbook got sent to my old address after trying to contact the owner so the car ended up officially mine so i had to break into the car to claim it by changing locks e.t.c., anyway 2 weeks later the geezer who owned the car got hold of my address thru DVLA and of course DVLA told me that the owner wanted to contact me so i felt bad in the way but he couldnt do nothing about his car as its mine so he came round he laughed about it and turned around and said if you wanted it i would have given you the keys and log book and i got abit quizzed about it, anyway the owner turned out to be the lead singer of Led Zeppelin (robert plant) in hertfordshire, so went round his house ang got his keys, must admit i felt stupid doing it and offered to give it back and said keep it, he had 2 other jags and a new delivered bently, after all that he was away on solo tour!! and sweet to say we keep in touch as well.. how sweeeeeeeeet is that!!!

year later after drinking gallons or petrol sucking the petrol station dry i flogged it and made a mint.....

thinking now ill wait till he goes on tour again and get his bently....

wouldnt need to work after that!!

if it is a private car park then speak to the owner he is legally entitled to remove abandoned property from his land and can empower you to remove it for him ...then apply to dvla they will issue a v5 in less than a month as long as the owner does not object
just one other point a v5 is not proof of ownership its just who the vehicle is registered to
