i'm thinking of buying one of these old turds for a laugh. as long as the engine is good, i'm not too bothered as if the rest of the car dies, i'll lob it in an E34 550i
itr's a lot of scrap metal at the end of the day so i'm never going to lose out too badly
assuming it works for a while, what sort of economy will these turds do? on a run and / or around town
assuming it shits its self levelling suspension and the electrics all die or something, what bits will fit a E34? (interior, brakes, diff etc?)
or is this an utterly stooooopid idea?!!!

hehe, fantastic!
this particular example has full electrics (hardly suprising), leather (again, no suprise) but is pimp black with teinted pimp windows and some tasty 18" deep dish alloys. all would be happy in a E34 if all goes tits up
now where to get the money....

cant be going for much in the current fuel climate. ive always said if i saw one of these locally id take a punt no matter what the condition, for the right price of course.
as you say it would be good to stuff the v12 into an e34 afterwards, id junk all the suspension and stuff though, its horribly complicated as i found out on my 540.

'88 e30 328i M52 track bint.
Yep EDC shocks are a fortune to replace! I had an E32 750 a couple of years back great fun, even if the OBC only showed an average of 6MPG!!!! the get up and go from such a big motor is fantastic. Apart from the suspension, everything else is pretty easy to work on, and the V12 itself if just 2 2.5 lumps, with 2 of everything, so not as scarey to work on as thoughtnickso wrote: as you say it would be good to stuff the v12 into an e34 afterwards, id junk all the suspension and stuff though, its horribly complicated as i found out on my 540.

it's not something that concerns me majorly and i'm under no illusion that it'll be any good at all. just there's a plan for a 1500 mile trip round france next month and this would be legendary in a 750iL!!!! at 6mpg, for 1500 miles, it could be costly... if it managed 20mpg on a run, it would be bearable

My brother briefy owned an 850i, and its batteries (they have two) kept going flat due to all the electrics these cars have if left for more than a day or two. It did shift though despite the slushbox and the noise was lovely.

yeh the engine isnt a complicated beast, didnt take me long to frag the last one at the scrappy anyway.Bry_D wrote:Yep EDC shocks are a fortune to replace! if its got self levelling and the active steering doofer the pipework in the engine bay is truly unnerving.

i agree about the plugs but you misquoted me, i said the pipework from the steering is unnerving.Bry_D wrote:Wouldn't say that, just lack of room to work, changing plugs is a days job on its own especially when you get to the last 2 on the nearsidenickso wrote: the engine bay is truly unnerving.
Buy it! It will be fun.
I would think carefully about doing a long trip in it and risk end up being stranded somewhere subject to a repair at great expense.

What's wrong with them then, or is it just down to neglect by careless owners?pacerpete wrote:These horrid turds will do, assuming all is ship shape, 20 + on a run ,down to low teens around town/acting the c0ck. Petrol costs will be the least of your problems !
