I'm serously considering selling my touring (for the 2nd time this year) and would like to know your opinions on value :D

Spec is:

1989 325i Touring in Lachs silver (the silver one off wheeler dealers).

Factory options:

Grey cloth sports seats
LSD
ABS
Air-con (converted to R134a and fully working)
Electric everything, mirrors/sunroof/windows inc rear
Front fogs
Power steering
Cruise control
BMW Westfalia removable towbar and electrics
OBC
Check control
Headlight wash-wipe

Engine:
2.8 stroker conversion (stiil running in, only covered 312 miles).
325i head.
Original 325i block, re-honed and 0.5mm shaved off to retain piston/head clearance.
M52B28 crank.
320i conrods.
Low-comp 325i pistons.
Total seal piston rings.
Catcam 272 degree camshaft.
All new rockers and shafts.
All new exhaust valves.
All new valve guides.
Freshly cleaned injectors.
Lightened flywheel and paddle clutch (not too aggressive though).
New oil pump and water pump.
Magnecor ignition leads.
Zone 2.8 chip from Ant.
Estimated at well over 200bhp, 230-240 maybe, it's fookin quick and I haven't even given it full beans yet.

Exhaust:
BTB 'snake' 6 branch manifold
Scorpion back box with le-mans tail pipes
Standard boysen centre box

Drive train:
Getrag 260 sport box
Factory 3.91 LSD with fresh oil and a Z3M diff bush
Z3 1.9 M44 gear shift

Suspension:
H&R adjustable anti-roll bars
H&R touring specific springs, 35mm drop
Koni adjustable shocks
Alloy strut brace
M3 eccentric wisbone bushes
E46 cab rear top mounts

Brakes:
Standard rear discs and pads
Audi TT front discs and E34 M5 single pot calipers with standard pads
E36 touring brake master cylinder
Goodridge hoses all round
New solid brake lines for the rear brakes

Wheels:
New Alpina reps with 215/40/17 rear and 205/40/17 front tyres, no wobbles or buckles, minor kerbing to nearside alloys. Tyres are less than 3 months old and have run less than 1500 miles.

Exterior:
New genuine iS front lip spoiler in satin black
Original touring side skirts
Genuine smoked Hella headlamps
HID conversion
Blue top-tint windscreen

Interior:
Grey sports cloth with rear headrests
Grey centre console/leather gear and handbrake gaiters/glovebox/knee roll.
Grey Lockwood dials and alloy dial rings
Momo steering wheel.
Genuine AC Schnitzer gearknob/handbrake lever/pedals
Sony MD head unit with 10 disc CD changer in the boot
Oil pressure/temperature and AFR gauges
Fire extinguisher (new type)
Load cover
Original first aid kit/warning triangle/chock/tool roll, unused
Original touring rear speakers.
Thatcham Cat 1 alarm/immobiliser with pager.

144k genuine miles.

Bodywork is mint (really mint as in zero rust) bar the front pass door, a good replacement is in my shed but needs painting. The underside was steam cleaned last year and re-undersealed with quality polyurethane underseal, not the bitumen based crap.

MOT until November 2008 and Tax until June iirc.

Lots of service history and bills aplenty.

Needs a rear wheel bearing and front wishbone (bloody speed mountains), these will be replaced before sale.

Pics (please ignore the alloys and german plates, they're long gone).

 That is my favorite touring I have seen so far! Best of luck if you decide to sell it, as for value easy £1700 plus in my eyes.

Didn't see this one coming did ya Carl !?

TBH, now I've got the Van it's sat there and hardly moved since the engine transplant. I'll only ever use it for travelling to meets and my parents and maybe the odd sunny weekend so what's the point in keeping it.

I've got the bike bug again and have my eye on a Suzuki TL1000R, insurance is only £169 as opposed to nearly 800 for the E30.

I will miss the awesome grunt of the 2.8 though, this is easily the quickest car I've ever been in now, just don't want to see it waste away on my drive.

Cheers,

Iain T

I know you never get back what you pay into a car like this but £1700 has been spent on the engine (not even finished running it in) and BTB manifold alone.

Don't take less than £3000 after all your effort surely. You haven't even been able to blast it properly as it isn't run in. Why after all this work do you want to sell it? None of my business though. It seems a common thing after a really cool car is pieced together it gets sold. Just enjoy the project building is one of the reasons I suppose.

2.8 touring - gotta to be the most versatile E30.

I definately wouldn't sell for less than £3k, I'd rather keep her than give her away.

I reckon all-in I've spent (including purchase price) £6k in the 14 months I've owned her.

Your not going to strap the nipper into the van a la pikey are you Iain?

Dont think I could sell up to do a complete U turn, my 4 door will be going soon, but only so I can move onto bigger and better engine conversions.

I agree with Simon, sit on it 8)

Lovely looking car, and looks like a lot of time and effort have gone into it.
What kinda fuel consumption are you getting with the 2.8?

this might seem like a good idea now but i reckon you will regret it if you sell up buddy, might take a few months but you will look back at the work you have done and what it will take to build another car and think "what was i thinking"

on the plus side its nice to see youre impressed with the 2.8, got my cam and chip on order from ant and ill be digging deep for the rockers and pumps etc from the dealers when i get back from my holiday so i can get it in and start putting some miles on.

oh yeah, a suggestion for the touring, just use the damn thing more

If my 325 sport sells over here in Ireland, I'll be converting some Euro to sterling and putting cash on the table

I'm sure you'll hear that loads of times, but I'll keep tabs.

Brian

any takers for mine, negotiable for quick sale

Difficult call,Iain, summer's here and a bike looks cool. But the touring means the family can join in the fun... Problem with selling is that this is YOUR touring, there is'nt another just the same, you know as well as me that modified cars are worth the sum of their parts...

Iain ,

   You will regret it i promise you. When i sold mine to my brother , it only took about a month before i realised id dropped a bollock. And mine was bog standard !!!
With all the mods , blood , sweat and tears you have spent on it you will at some point regret it im sure.

Why not get a straight E30 touring and do a tasty diesel conversion. And use that as the daily hack.

Will call you for a chat this weekend my friend.

Also , have you still got the E30 Trailer at yours?? If so ill rape the bits i wanted matey

She doesn't.

The wife's got a merc at the moment but want's a change, she's realised that merc's are sh!t in comparison to BMW.

Lee, it's Katie's 1st birthday on monday so I'll be busy, I'm on 2-10 lates next week.

Had a pretty good run down the M6/M1 last night, averaged 26mpg which is better than the 2.7 would do.

The problem I have now is that the wife is scared witless with the power/acceleration and clearly doesn't want to be in it anymore.

Looks like she'll be up for sale.

The positives don't outweigh the negatives anymore.

Cheers,

Why hasnt this thread been locked like this one?

Seems to be no different but the same person is adding to the thread rather than locking it, I am sure there will be some difference that will be pointed out but I cannot see it currently :D

The reason that thread was locked was because it was posted twice, once in E30 chat & in Cars for sale. Double posting AND feeler threads in the for sale section are not allowed. The OP was given assistance in setting out a new stall and now has a for sale thread in the right place.

This thread is a feeler thread in the right section, if and when he wants to sell it then it'll go to the for sale section.

If you read the section rules then all would become clear :)
