The car was meant to go to its new owner in 2 weeks and its obviously not going in this state. I'm in 2 minds as to repair/replace the engine it or just to let it go as it is. After rebuilding the car and giving it a full respray, new badges etc etc I feel GUTTED I wish I had sold it for bits after buying back from the insurance company. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
my bottom end has gone :-(

Hindsight indeed mate... im in the same boat - almost 6k on a Ԛ£650 sport and its got no running gear yet. I could have bought Ants minter for under 4k and id have a mint car for that and no work needed.
How much would it cost to repair and may i be so rude as to ask what u sold the M3 for Ԛ£ wise?

What actually happens when the bottom end goes? Are there any signs that its gonna happen, symptoms to look out for?

bearings go giving extra play and knocking as rods are not tight enough on the crank,,,,shells can spin..... and rings can get bugered or bore wear occurs...peejay wrote:What actually happens when the bottom end goes? Are there any signs that its gonna happen, symptoms to look out for?

I have found an 80k engine with S/H at a very reasonable price but to be honest i don't think its worth my while going through the whole process just to sell it. Will probably just sell it as it is.

probably not Andy. But if i spend to get it running again and then sell it, may not be too much difference between that and selling as is.
