Better air filter and 6 'zorst branch manifold, will show a nice gain with the cam.

There are sooo many better options than the K&N! The standard BMW airbox is one...

and Big Bore Throttle Body.

right my suggestions would be : NA tuning
6 branch manifold (hottunning or BTB) + free flowing stainless exhaust
BBTB
standalone management (megasquirt) Or A-Tech chip to suit depending on budget
Some M30 injectors to stop top end fuel starvation.
Gearbox is one gear ratio diffrernt so not really an option ( use 320 box )
or you can save some pennies and go FI route would be : Definatley not for a grand though
Decomplate
some engine work
42lbs injectors
A-Tech supercharger kit
and standalone
TBH you have gone too fa NA so my first suggestion would be the better option with the 282 cam on board it should fly if set-up correctly

So how does air intake work? the less restriction as possible? or do boxes work better with some sort of regulation on the amount of air?

air intake is suck in air past AFM the to throttle body plate then into inlet manifold
less restriction is the best route
with K+N require a heat plate fro them to wor efficently so air filter does not pull in warm air from engine bay.
TBH just leave standard air box on with free flowing panel filter.
If you use the money to go stand alone the air box and AFM are discarded so first poit of contact for the air is the throttle body plate

Sell the engine and fit an M52B28 then mod that to over 230bhp and still have cash left over.
If I can't fix it I'll f**k it up so bad nobody can!!

M52B28 + E34 sump,dipstick,oilpump,mounts and modded M50 intake is simply not possible on a 1 bag budget

going rate for the mill alone is £850 in my local breakers......

For the original post.

BBTB,CatCam 273/273, Chip to suit and the hottuning 6 branch.

with new gaskets all round and a head rebuild, thats a nice way to spend 1K fella

< shameless plug mode > A-Tech can supply all the above as a packaged one box kit if you wanted, inc all the required gaskets..... :thumb:

The hottuning 6 branch is 250 + 25 postage on ebay,.. can I get it cheaper anywhere else? And where can I get a bbtb cheap (but not a piece of crap either)

I rekon Ill go for a dyno remap session when iv got it all up and running. They can do this without a megasquirt cant they?

An M50B25 from an E34 is surely possible for under a grand? Though it doesn't answer the original question and probably wouldn't provide much more power than is possible from the already stroked engine. It'd be well worth swapping one instead of tuning a 2.5 but seeing as you're already 2.7...

My personal vote is fit your cam, get the 6 branch and Megasquirt. You should just about be able to get that done for a grand I'd say?
