my car is a perfect example, it looks like a sport and has the genuine kit fitted by the stealers when it was 2 years old. Obviously anyone with "the knowledge" would spot it isn't on account of the colour of the headlining, r view mirror and on driving, the absence of lsd and close ratio 'box. But it has tasteful mods in the engine and handling dept, goes pretty well and cost me sod all. I was very fortunate as my mate let it go for far less than it is worth.

However, I make all of these comments having never driven or been driven in a sport. But my personal opinion and no offence to anyone intended, I think sports are overpriced for what they are. I think Ԛ£2500 max for a good sport and no more! Once again no offence to you sport owners!

Wil... I remember Telboys Sport. We talked about doing a deal many moons ago with my old 320i Convertible. It never came off. I got scared for some reason. Shame, because I heard it was a nice car.

Ԛ£2500 for a 'good' Sport...? Is that one in 'generally good condition' - 'very good condition' or 'mint'

Having not driven one, I think you should. It might change your perspective of their worth...

Giles.

The twilight of the E30 is upon us anyway, the sh!tters are dying off quickly and give it another 5 yrs and there will be a lot fewer of them. And the prices of all remaining examples will be alot firmer i bet, Sports or not!

Tis was! Id have had it if the timing was right, Metallic Black with the all important air con means id have loved it, creature comforts and a strange fixation with Black E30s, i think have issues

Next 2 years more like it. The number of E30's going off the road is unreal now.

I better buy my self a sport and keep this 320i.

its still an M3 tho.

it all comes down to badge snobbiness.

You can make asport replica and u can do it cheaper than buying a really good sport. (best way is to start with a car thats already got a lot of what u want) however its not and nver will be a sport.

personally i think the sport is well overpriced, the e30 hasnt reached classic status yet but prices for the sports are very high.
However they are a damn good car, still quick in todays world and most def fun. But Ԛ£200 on a 3.91 diff and a boggo 325i is just as quick.

Overpriced or not tho id def have another one, but i wudnt be paying Ԛ£4k odd for it.

hmmmmmm funny topic.....i agree with geeman and mark......

all in all......sport is more desirable and not evryone has expertise to make a 325 into a ssport... therefre the higher price...

sports are cool and hold their place up there with the M3... plus they look more modern than other e30s cos of the kit,,,

not much else to say really.....id love a concours sport one day

They are not up there with M3's!

A good M3 costs in excess of Ԛ£6000.

A good M3 with a good engine is still faster than a C2 2.7 and a Hartge H27.

And a modifed M3 is a seriously quick car.

just to make things a bit more difficult im gonna throw alpinas into the ring too

theres been a few decent alpinas sold for less than the price of a decent sport recently, whats that all about - The C2 2.7 is a sport with official mods so how is a normal sport worth more?

i think m3s are the exception to the rule and have indeed reached classic status but i feel this is simply down to limited numbers and how amazing the car is which in turn increases demand for something that is very rare anyway

and iam not just saying this because i have one i just think its the case

Thats a mystery to me aswell.

C2's are genuine 200 bhp cars with lots and lots of torque.

Fine, the suspension is rock hard but it still out handles a sport and has those great extras that we all pay a fortune for.....6 branch, proper mapped ECU specific to that engine, recaros, 16" Alpina wheels.

Not all orignated from sports, most were SE's to start with but still, they should go for ore money than a sport all day long.

this is partly the point i was trying to make earlier

its also down to condition

you cannot say an alpina is worth more than a sport if the alpina is proper hanging and the sport is mint

each car needs to be looked at individually to assess its worth

yes generally id say an alpina is worth more, for sure but only when its compared to a sport in equally good condition

Infact, Im currently planning on finding a 325i Sport in excellent condition in Dolphin grey. Doing a 5 stud conversion and fitting a set of negaro silver 16" BBS's. To me that can never look chav which goes for 325i sports on a nice set of BBS's.
That sounds like a nice project... sounds similar to what I wanted to do with my next E30 purchase...
Well I hope the Sports keep their (overly high) value cause I'd be looking for 3K+ when I've finished with mine !

(off Topic!) what bits do you need to convert to 5 stud?

Something not too disimilar to the general discussion here, what about the motorsport convertible. Many people perceive these to be vastly overpriced yet we still see 'good' ones sell for extremely good money. A decent 325i convert can be had for Ԛ£2k - Ԛ£4k for a very, very nice one with all factory extras probably including a tech 2 kit. However ropey motorsports still fetch Ԛ£4k which is the minimum i've seen, up to Ԛ£10k for one i recently spotted as sold. No real difference between the SE with all the bits added and a motorsport except a piece of paper with the genuine stamp on it.
However of the official 250 motorsports made how many are left, how many written off, sh!te condition, high miles, stacks of bad owners neglected, damage recorded. In other words how many good ones are still around and out of that number how many are actually for sale. remember there was only 250 in 1990-1991. Motorsports are becomming classic, similar to sports/m3 and this is where current availability counts as a big factor too. Apart from the initial desire due to BMW marketing these cars as top end models, availability counts, it's not just about value for money.
Also if the buyer is a guy who wants a nice 325i anything then YES, an SE with all the bits is a bargain i've had one, loved it, and at the time thought no point spending twice as much for a Log book. To a guy who wants an original sport NO he'd obviously pay more to get a similar spec car but with original status and wouldn't even look at a non genuine car.
Similar arguement is 'How much for a motorsport, crikey that's M3 money'......the guy/buyer for the motorsport might not want a left hand drive 4 cylinder car. It's the person who raised the point who would personally have an M3 instead for that kinda money, it's an opinion only.
Again 2 very good but different cars and 2 different buyers, why compare.
Personally i wish BMW had made another convertible, my own personal vision of e30 perfection, basically a 325i motorsport with the M3 arches/styling. Or an M3 convertible in RHD with a 6 cylinder engine. Same thing really, either way it would still have the critics, not as good as the M3, too heavy, 4cyl-6 cyl etc. etc. etc.

Motorsport Cabs are a different story - there are so few of them!

325i Sports are in abundance - just visit the nearest council estate :D

Anything made in such few numbers will command that sort of price.

Is the Sport the new 320i? The one the gets picked on or something.....?!

Can't really comment on it to much as the only sport i have been in is Karan's and thats in a league of it own..
My Old man used to own a standard 325i in 89, was a very nice car when it was new, think he tested a sport but decided against it...didn't like the way it looked (or my mum didn't.... :x :x :x :x :x ) That car got rear-ended about 13 years ago...

Like has been said Sports are worth what people will pay for them, and if you think about it Ԛ£3000 for what is really a Classic car is not a lot.

I do agree with Sal that other e30's in the range should be worth more, especially Alpina etc..

As for e30s dying out, I don't think so, there are LOADS still around. Just walk around mayfair/soho/kensington/marylebone etc etc, there will always be a MINT looking tourer/convertible/standard325/320 lurking on the street. I often find myself next to a e30 in traffic in central london.

Its a tribute to their design how good they look next to the big new s-classes and 7-series.

Compare a 86 sport to a 86 seven series...we all know which looks the best! (and) which is rightly worth more.
