Cant find a specific ARP kit for the S50B30, closest is for E36-E46 and is used on the M50/52's etc.. Is this the right one? Part No. 201-6102, BMW E36-E46 rod bolt kit :?

Dan,

That's the kit I have in the garage, so I hope they're correct. I clearly stated what engine they were for when they were ordered.

Are these them:

http://www.arrowprecision.co.uk/details.php?id=67771

If so.. is this the best place to buy them?

I distinctly remember them being £73.89 plus vat last time I looked!

Can anyone get them cheaper? I need a set, it's the last thing I need to buy before bolting it all together and dropping the engine into the bay!

Well I just ordered me a set.

Expensive but at least now I can do all the engine bits and drop it into the engine bay!

Yey!

wouldn´t a part cross reference show if they are the same?
i.e stock´s used in those series of engines.

With great challenges comes great engineering.

I haven't tried that yet Gunni but I seem to recall BMW doing a recall on S54 engines and changing the conrod bearings and bolts.. Wouldn't that mean they're different part numbers anyway?

I'm sure I remember Dameon fitting ARP bolts.. Were the ones mentioned above the ones you used???

I hope I've ordered the right ones.... I'll let you know if I haven't!! :x

They've arrived. Very good service from Arrow performance... Reccomended. I forgot to put my issue number in on Friday at about 6pm and they rang me Mon first thing to check. They arrived today about 11am Tuesday.

Wont know if they fit till at least the weekend.

They're as lovely a set of bolts as you'l ever see....

Anyone used the stretch method of fitting or isn't it possible because of the shape of the conrod? Did you just use the torque it to 50 lbs foot five times method?

Cheers.

Wouldn't mind abusing some sisters too.. And I am doing something actually. I've been AutoCADding up that buildings regs approval for the flat in London. I was up all bloody night.. Ask DanThe! Left it till the last minute though was busy gadding about in postman pats reject Combo van all weekend after girls. Poop poop...

Gotta do a scrapyard day this week for some bits for both the cars. You still down in Bournemouth? (what am I saying, you're a scrapyard vandal with those bloody wire cutters, I couldn't go with you, I spend hours rescuing bits for people to get to bits I need).

No reason I can't get the engine all ready at the weekend though and get a hand off someone to drop it in! Needs a starter motor and loads of other bits and bobs but I have pretty much everything you need to get it sat where it looks most pretty.

Might need a decent torque wrench though........

[edit] and whoooooooo's a post whore Mr. Swanky 10k post pants... Fecking yoof of today.

Haha!! Yeah yeah.. Sure thing.. Love your need to provide an alibi!! Already told you dude, Postman Pats van isnt a plus point with the lasses

Brighton dear.. Brighton.. But yeah i am, got my dissertation hand in this Thurs (2 days!!) which is why im on here so much

Nowt wrong with my scrapyard methods.. Gets whats i want n scrams, utitlising a self enforced buy on get one free policy. Never mind this saving things shit.. (I do do it sometimes tho)

Starter would be a git to put on after.. Do it before you drop it in imo!!

I had to buy a nice new torque wrench for rebuilding my top end! More expensive than you would think :(

P.S

Shut it! At least all my posts are meaningful and 100% helpful.. Bloody old people, always something wrong! Not happy unless they are moaning

Starter, don't even go there trying to change one/add one to an S50 conversion. Been there and bought the postcard. Not a nice job to do.

Whack it all in in one go. I got the engine and box in on my own you big pussy

Tit's Hoped I'd get away without having to buy anything else just yet..

This state of semi-employment is a load of old wank.

What starter mototrs fit the S50? Same as the M5x? I probably need a 3.0litre one if they're different to the E36Evo ones as I have a ZM engine and 5 speed gearbox. Going to have to find one of them too now.

But different to M5x versions. Not sure what's different, but different parts specified on the ETK.

Cool...

There's a couple on ebay I'll keep an eye on then. Cheers guys.

I had a perfectly good starter but it was in a big waterproof plastic box outside that someone moved the cover to one side on and forgot to put back properly. Poor bugger drowned. Took it's buddy air-con and compressor and his wife Mrs Alternator with him too I think. I shall have to check.

There are some E36 Evo braided hoses for the clutch on ebay but I think £20 is a bit steep. I've been thinking about getting a reel of flexible stainless hose and some ends to do the rear beam (The ZM's have a different pipe layout so I might just make long flexible ones from the E30 splitter, dunno).

I should be budgeting but I've set myself the goal of getting the 'engine in bay' milestne under my belt.

That's the trouble.. It always has to be 100% othrwise I can't stand it. I could probably have had the S50 runnin with standard running gear and bottom end bolts a while ago. Kinda wish I had!

I need to strip down the rear suspension so I can have it blasted and powder oated next.. Plus scrub under the car so I can re-underseal and paint it, plus acid batch the sump so it's shiny, plus.... Oh dear, here we go again.

Haha!!!

I didnt do that with mine due to time restraints (Uni bum.. Dad wanted it shifted etc)

However once its done, i will be swapping all the bushes on the car, which means the rear beam will come down and be done properly.. Front arms etc etc..

Twice the work, but not much choice in the matter

But i dont want it looking too tarty.. Its their to be used and abused
