Hi
i am restoring an 86 c2, i have documention from synters confirming its genuine with build date etc but my problem lies here
i got onto alpina for the part numbers for the badges which they kindly provided saying i would need to give my chassis number when ordering from my local dealer ,i did this showed them the letter from synters also they said no problem but they then got back to me saying the bmw gb said they need the alpina chassis number? i have explained that this was a uk conversion so wouldn't have the alpina chassis number am i correct in this ? or does alpina put a second chassis number on also ?

Regards
Brian

No. You need an official letter from your mum and a comprehensive DNA test proving you're up to Alpina's high standards....

I really don't understand the way dealers make such a big deal of these things! I DONT want to join MI5... I just want to buy a few quality car parts.... I can understand the sense in keeping a brand image, they just take it soooo far!

Try another dealer, or perhaps the chap on here (in the BMW official parts section of the zone...). Dont knw if he can get Alpina parts though?

If I'm reading this right, your chassis number should come up as a sytner converted car so there should be no problems. When they type the 7 digits in it will / should tell them that the car is an Alpina. Virtually all C2's in this country were Sytner UK converted I believe. Not many came in as Alpina cars.

Speak to Si13 or Pacerpete. Si's restoring a C2.7 and has ordered and been successfull in obtaining virtually anything for it including the badges. It sounds to me like the dealer needs a rocket up his arse. BMW GB shouldn't be involved. They would surely know the score and contact Sytners to verify authenticity. I reckon its a dumb parts guy here making excuses.

Also ask Zimmerbimmer (our resident parts guy) to run the chassis number through the system and see if there is a problem.

If it is a Syntner car and a c2 2.5 then Alpina germany will not recognise it as an Alpina.

Sytners will be the only ones to be able to supply the badges if it is a c2 2.5

Zimmer can supply the bits if you give him proof that it is a Sytner built Alpina. A letter of authenticity should be fine. Why not go direct to Sytner?

Remember these cars were built under concession by Sytner's and that they do not have a specific alpina chassis number like the Buchloe cars did from '93 onwards (correct me if I'm wrong).

I have recently ordered and received C2 2.7 badges using a sytner converted cars chassis number. Sounds like you parts man is being an idiot!
