A 520i problem

Hi,
Some help needed

In me friends 91' 520, the top speed is very minimal
It has the twin cam 6 cylinder in it with a 5 speeder manual

First gear in it is like a crawler gear in a land rover, we did a test up a hil with the landy beside it in low range & the bimmers revs and the speed matched that of the landy give or take

When on the motorway doing 70 MPH the engine is screaming at 4100 rpm

Any ideas why this is happenin or are all 520i likes this

Wouldnt of that it wouldve revved that high, my E34 Sport sits about 2.5k at 65mph iirc

Oh right thanks, what year is your E34? this on is 91, so its the first of the them
