To anyone that's installed a custom cages (or any other construct-it-yourself) roll cage...how long did it take you to go from a pile of tubes to a welded-in cage? I'm planning on trying to do the install all at once, with three of us working together (two measuring, cutting and profiling, and one welding). I've got a four-day session penciled in to get the job done, including painting it and doing some other very minor welding of bodywork (couple of small rust holes to plate up) - enough time or am I dreaming?!
Any ideas/thoughts/suggestions?
Thanks,
Mike

four days from scratch? Good luck (depending on how many points you are planning)
You can easy double that and I still think you will be surprised how much work it really is. More man doesn't equal to more work done in the same time.

Our Chris is working on this at the moment.
Should have it perfected soon and then there will be some CAD plans for us all to share.
Wayne has the computer aided pipe bender and the fish mouth cutter..
The idea is to be able to sell you all the pipes you need to assemble your own Touring car spec cage.
Should save folk a lot of time and grief!

Not yet.. should be very competitive though.oylegate wrote:Any idea of costs on the kit? I would be very interested in that!
As cheap as an off the shelf bolt in is the target!
Trouble is steel prices are strong at the moment.. and the tubing they use comes in from Germany.
If any of you are near Elvington (York) this Saturday you can see their spaceframed Mini-Busa for yourselves.. before it gets sent over to its buyer in the Emirates.
Dont blink though or you will miss it.. 350bhp at the wheels!
Has uwe said, takes a lot of time, even for the guys who do it day in day out. I watched a cage being built from scratch for a friends competition car and was surprised at the time it takes to make, theres a lot of planning measuring marking cutting etc. Although i realy enjoyed seeing the process.
